Bf 109E paint detail on wing roots

Harry,

This is mostly for you. We were having a discussion in this Hangar or the original about the details on Dragons painted wing roots. We could not come with any decent pictures detailing the paint job on where the wing joined the fuselage on the original. Found this site http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/ and it has some great pictures of the roots on the 109E. I found this site way late but it looks like Dragon may have had it correct on some of the 109's. http://old.messerschmitt-bf109.de/pi...4-farbfoto.jpg, http://old.messerschmitt-bf109.de/pi...452-swfoto.jpg, http://old.messerschmitt-bf109.de/pi...431-swfoto.jpg

These images are small but the site has them full size and many more of them.

Bill

Bill,
I agree.. Since the original debate way back when, I found out that many Bf-109Es did not have their wing roots painted like later models had.. Many 109Es did, but I think it depends on how they were assembled as to whether they had the roots painted or not..

My bad.....

Re: Bf 109E paint detail on wing roots

I recall an article in "FineScale Modeler" some time ago about a desert BF-109E build where the research indicated that RLM gray (02), was applied to the wing roots of these planes by the factory and left as is when the rest of the machine was painted in the usual sand and spinach motif in Italy or Libya.
