F-84

I came across some pictures yesterday of the F-84 and I realized I didn't knew little about this plane. It looks pretty nice and I was wondering why this seems to be a plane that nobody ever mentions when they make a list of desired planes. Or if it has been in a list I have just missed it. What is it about this plane that seems to put it on the back burner of requests. Now don't jump to conclusions, this is strictly my own personal enquiry triggered by some pictures. Like I said it is one plane I know very little about and I'm just curious.

Re: F-84

The F-84 don't have the notoriety or popularity compared to the F-80s and F-86s of the period, but these bantam sized jets have lived up a good reputation and earned some respect from the drivers who flew these during the Korean War. I would love to see the F-84s in diecast if the F-80s are also made. The 'Thunderjets' boast some of the more colorfull schemes, my favorite one is the USAF T-Birds short-lived counterpart "The Sky Blazers" aerial demo team.

Re: F-84

Not even in the t-bird colors does that interest me. Maybe the Thunderstreak.

Re: F-84

Large numbers of the straight and swept wing F-84s were used by NATO 50's and 60's.

The earlier straight wing versions also saw considerable service during The Korean War, primarily in the ground attack mode, if I am not mistaken. Model Power made an F-84 a while back which I purchased. The plane is virtually free of detail and has an unattractive livery. The basic problem with the more capable (and attractive) sweptback F-84s--"Thunderstreaks"--is the fact that these planes saw virtually no combat. As a result they don't get much media exposure compared to the F-86 or, even the "Panther" (as in "The Bridges of Toko-Ri"). As a result, there's little interest in F-84s.

Re: F-84

Going along with the F-80 and F-84 is the T-33, which was used by many, many air forces. For some reason, it seems to get overlooked, too. Must not be sexy enough!

Re: F-84

I for one would like to see an F-84F Thunderstreak and would definitiely buy a few (lots of great schemes). I don't know what the market would be for such a jet - the large stocks of Corgi F-86's out there gives me pause. Still, if the schemes were strong, it could be a real success.

FYI - I love my HM MiG-21 and F-104!

The Corgi F-86's...it seems like they overdone the US versions with the yellow stripes. Maybe if they put out some more NATO Sabres, or some Pakistani MiG killers, they might have sold a lot more...

One Pakistani F-86 pilot shot down 9 Indian Hunters. He claims he shot down 5 Hunters in 3 minutes, his superiors are not sure, there is no doubt he shot down 3 in 3 minutes and no doubt that he shot down 5 in the engagement.
