Re: The Best Football

Size appears to be the main factor in American Football with only the scoring players requiring speed, stamina and agility.

Size is definitely important, but anymore, if those large offense and defensive linemen cannot move, forget it! Teams, especially at the college and professional level, look for speed in most of their players also.

Re: The Best Football

At least American Football has sideline personnel that are easy on the eyes. Looks like the Aussies prefer drums.

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Russell Crowe says his rugby league club's cheerleading squad is being cut because skimpily clad cheerleaders detract from the game and make spectators uncomfortable.

The Oscar-winning actor, who is part-owner in the South Sydney Rabbitohs club, said the club had become concerned that the cheerleaders - whose uniform includes fishnet stockings and tasseled miniskirts in the white, green and red team colors - were inappropriate entertainment.

Do these ladies make you feel uncomfortable? That concern has led part-owner Russell Crowe to eliminate the cheer squad from the South Sydney Rabbitohs payroll. (South Sydney Rabbitohs)

"It makes women uncomfortable and it makes blokes who take their son to the football also uncomfortable," Crowe was quoted as saying in News Ltd. newspapers Friday.
"We examined game day and wanted to contemporize and make the focus (on) football," he said.
A team of percussionists will replace the cheerleaders, the club announced this week. The club's Web site invited drummers to audition.
Crowe, a longtime Rabbitohs supporter, helped save the club from obscurity a few years ago before buying a major stake in 2006.
He won an Oscar in 2001 for "Gladiator." The 42-year-old actor has also received Oscar nominations for "The Insider" and "A Beautiful Mind."

Re: The Best Football

I guess I'm the only guy here who like both, European Football and American Football.

Re: The Best Football

Talk about a boring game with a bazillion "stoppages" in play! Baseball is the worst!

I would agree that it is a much slower paced game and I don't like watching it on television because of the pace. Playing it however, is the greatest thing to me. I also enjoy going to games because of the slow pace which seems to suit the season of summer. Relaxing with friends, chatting about the game and life in general and absorbing the atmosphere of summer.

Re: The Best Football

I don't mind watching a game of baseball now and again as it's no slower than cricket, but a slow game of footy just seems weird to me. And as Chiefs said, Summer is HOT and a slower game, with plenty of beer, is the way to go - watching or playing

As for Russel Crow, I like his acting, but if he takes away some of our cheerleaders I'll hit him in the head with a phone - a really big one

Unfortunately, I feel the same way about many forms of sports nowdays and not just US-centric ones like baseball (at least Beaches is over in like two hours, but it takes that much to wrap up just one inning ), Formula 1 racing, NASCAR, Golf, Men's Tennis.

Re: The Best Football

Even the worst kind of football is great if there's beer involved.
