Air museums and hobby/diecast shops in Portland OR

Hey guys,
I will be spending a day in the Portland OR area and wanted your opinions on what to do. I'm specifically looking for opinions on the air museums in the area and good hobby or diecast shops to visit, or if there is a must see or do in the area that doesn't have to do with airplanes.
Thanks! Looking forward to this road trip.

Chris

I've never scouted the hobby shops in the Portland area but here is what I came up with. Search Results

IMHO, OMSI is a "must see".

Oregon Museum of Science & Industry

If nothing else, it's home to USS BLUEBACK (SS 581), the last non-nuclear attack submarine in the U.S. Navy and star of "The Hunt for Red October".

Its not far to drive to McMinnville to see the Spruce Goose etc. Alternately, visit McChord AFB near Tacoma WA. There is also Tilamook on the coast which houses a large collection in the old blimp hangar.

Re: Air museums and hobby/diecast shops in Portland OR

Thanks for the replies guys. Right now I'm planning to visit the Evergreen Museum in McMinnville. Tillamook seems a bit too far out of my way. Anyone have any comments on this one?

Pearson Air Museum

Also plan on checking out perry's aircraft if I have time.

Any other opinions and suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Chris

Sounds awsome. I hear that the Evergreen place is awsome, and that the Spruce Goose is just somthing to really take in.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Columbia Helicopter is an intresting drive by. Erickson is as well. Both facilities use heavy lift helicopters Columbia uses a version of the Chinook called the 230 and Erickson uses their own rebuilt S-76 Skycranes. "Check it out"
