| Diecast and Death The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) had an article sometime back warning Radio Control enthusiast's to make plans for disposing of their models and equipment when they die. This suggestion may apply to diecast collectors as well. It seems that when some of these modelers die, the long suffering widow throws out the planes and equipment, finally ridding themselves of the 'mistress' which stole so much of their husband's time, attention and affection. The final insult occurs some months later. RC club members inquire if the planes, transmitters and other things are available for sale. The widow's pleasure in having disposed of the stuff them becomes pain when she learns she has literally throw away thousands of dollars. So have a plan. Have an itemized list with values. Give her the names of knowledgeable people you trust to help her dispose of the collection for fair compensation. Make her say "Golly that old coot was smart, look how much this is worth. What a great investment!" ![]() Or just leave it all to me. ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Diecast and Death I'm more worried about the superb books I've accumulated, those should most certainly be shared. Regarding the models, I think I have enough people in my circle who would ebay them or give them away responsibly. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Diecast and Death So sad when people have finally learned the value of collectible items. Such is a sad case when, during 1960s/70s in my family, when my grandparents thought "oh, these baseball cards aren't worth anything" and off they went to a burn barrel. Yeah, nobody would really want a Mickey Mantle rookie card, or a Hank Aaron rookie card, etc. Stuff like that is worth nothing... ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Diecast and Death I will probably get crushed to death when rummaging about in one of the closets where I store surplus diecast planes and AFVs and the whole lot comes crashing down on my head. What a way to go? Is this better than sex? | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Diecast and Death As for me.... my oldest son he will take all the planes and not sell them ever because they were his Fathers.... What a son....For my Nascar collection ...The Earnhardt stuff will go to my oldest daughter she's a big time Earnhardt fan too..Youngest daughter will take all the Gordon stuff.....The rest will be sold off i'm sure....My kids know the values of these collectible items more then my wife does...But she is learning that some of the stuff is worth more then others... What a minute here ...I just turned 44 and i don't plan on leaving here for a least another 40 yrs...By then these things may not be so good ..like they are now... JP | ||||||||||||||

NO! Luckily, I don't have to choose between the two, however. | |||||||||||||||
