Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I don't know about you guys but I need a better way to account for the models I have. I have so many collected over ten years now that I run the risk of forgetting what I have and buying a model twice! I have so many models that 90% of them are in their original boxes and stored in three separate closets around the house. One day I just know my wife is going to heave them all onto the front lawn to make room for clothing! So...how do you guys organize your collection? I think I want to use a spreadsheet but is anyone willing to send me their template? My collection is strictly military aviation diecast of all scales. Help!

I would love that as well.

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I created an Access database to help manage my collection, however right now I'm in the process of converting it over to MySQL/PHP.

Here's a SS of my Access data entry form...

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I wish I had your problem (and collecting budget). I have about 75 planes of various scales and have almost all of them on display in two (soon to be three) modified Detolf cases. I can inventory my modest collection in a quick glance...

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

Well my collection has gotten ridiculous. The collection has grown to an unmanageable size and I bet yours will too - in time (ten years remember). The problem is that many of my earlier purchases were obtained simply because nothing else was available back then. Now things are vastly different with HobbyMaster, GeminiAces, Eagles International, and Century Wings available! I need to dump my earlier Armour and some Corgis. The newer "replacements" are just soooo much better! And thanks IKONOS for the idea of a database. That looks like a great way to archive my stuff!

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

That would be a lot of work to make a spreadsheet with a collection of your size 10yrs worth...But in the long run it be worth it.
I have a file on my computer that has all my info of the planes i have....a lot of work but fun.

STARMAN, what program did you use for the "file"? Word? Excel?

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I have lots of diecast and so far I have kept a handwritten list of my collection which is organized by era, country, plane , scale and manufacturer. I don't indicate product numbers, however, but only the number of models of each type. I do the same thing with planes that are on order, but in more detail---listing the plane's name or some other form of ID, plus the vendor. This is so I don't make unintended duplicate buys.

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I have also made a database in Access, though it isn't as elaborate as Ikonos'. If you have Access on your computer and want a blank one, e-mail me.

Microsoft Word for Mac.
Excel for Mac.
They both work.
