Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

My boy, you must have alot of free time on your hands!

I created an Access database to help manage my collection, however right now I'm in the process of converting it over to MySQL/PHP.

Here's a SS of my Access data entry form...

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

This is a good idea. I need to make one of these. I also need to pull out my planes and make a DVD of the lot for insurance purposes...

Red face Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I use an Excel spread sheet that I list aircraft by Scale, Air Arm, Model Number, Aircraft Serial No./Codes, Rarity Index (Corgi, started out with them) and price. I also separate them by WWII types and Post WWII types. On another sheet I keep a simple list of aircraft type and the number of model of that type I have.

As TopHat so aptly noted you have to have time on your hands. I don't, with a toddler and 4 year old on my hands, so my lists haven't been updated in ages. Now I really don't know how many models I have.

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

A simple Excel spreadsheet is plenty sufficient for your purposes, and very easy to maintain. That's what I use. No need to get complicated with Access, unless you want to do it to sharpen your computer skills or are intending on setting up a business selling your models.

Mine spreadsheet is similar in concept to ZS-VAN's, except I don't track rarity (since I don't care about it). I have thought about adding a column reflecting "current value" (as opposed to purchase price which is one of my entries), but decided against it as it's too hard to get accurate updates, and truly, I don't really care enough about that either.

I'm always fascinated by collectors who keep all or most of their models in boxes. Never could get the point, unless it's the hope of moving to a larger place later and then being able to display the collection (?), or attempt to make money by re-selling (good luck...).

And this is my one, which you can extract out to an Excel spreadsheet.

Regarding the "keeping most of the models in boxes" comment, in my case, everyone I know thinks I'm crazy! But I do plan to display all of them once either the kids move out in 8 more years or we move to a bigger house. In the meantime, I just dream of that day...helps me forget about work and go to sleep! Don't get me wrong though - I don't think I'm obsessed with this hobby although I may be the only one that agrees.

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

I was planning to build my own DB application using the personal oracle tools, but time keeps getting the better of me and I see too much of database developement at work. I found the wings-900 site that has a collection tool and keep track of my collection in there.

Disadvantage of this is that it does not allow me to record all my other collections and still does not have a complete listing of all the birds that we collect as it's primarility oprganized round the civil airliner markets. There are no FoV or Witty birds in there.

As it's a web tool, you guys can see my collection here:

Ooops!

If memory serves me correctly, you put a link or something on this forum or the UK forum so people could download it. If this is correct can we get a copy again?

Re: Diecast Collection List / Spreadsheet

Wings900 not only offers an excellent model collection database, but they now offer a diecast database program you can download free. In addition, you can access the Wings900 database and download information for individual models into the new program. If you download the new tool, be sure you download the update to fix some early bugs. Go to:
