Ok guys..

I am finishing up "Forever FLying" by Hoover..

I need something new to pick up..

Any suggestions?

Looking for air books.. not much into ground stuff, although, if it's a doosey I'll give it a shot.. Also, fiction doesn't have a chance..

Re: Another "What's a good book to read" thread..

I like Barrett Tillman's books on WWII navy planes. I've read the ones on the SBD Dauntless, Wildcat, and Hellcat. He also has one on the corsair, which I'll have to get.
I also liked "The Jolly Rogers" by Tom Blackburn and Eric Hammel.

Samurai by Saburo Sakai is also a great book, and a enlightening break from the US perspective.

Re: Another "What's a good book to read" thread..

Memoirs of the Second World War by Winston Churchill.

Hands down the BEST book I've ever read about WWII. Too many superlatives to list. The man was a prolific writer who also happened to lead nations during one of the darkest moments in World history.

Another superb book that is incredibly intriguing as it too was written by one the highest profile figures of WWII is "Inside the Third Reich" by Albert Speer (Armaments Minister..."Hitler's Architect").

How about Stephen Bungay's "The Dangerous Enemy".
That was a great book for me.

A superb and insightful book about both Speer and the psychology of the times is Albert Speer: His Battle With Truth by Gitta Sereny, an exceptionally gifted writer and historian who consulted extensively with Speer while researching the book. This book should be a must read for anyone interested in this period of history. (http://www.amazon.com/Albert-Speer-H...e=UTF8&s=books)

Also, for those of you who are interested in the 'birth' of the US combat army in WWII, An Army at Dawn by Rick Atkinson is an excellent book which shows both the dynamics and processes (political, organisational and military) involved in the establishment of the force that was destined to travel from North Africa to the heart of Germany. Or try this one - and let us know how it is.

The Millionaire's Unit: The Aristocratic Flyboys who Fought the Great War and Invented American Airpower
By Marc Wortman

Product Description
The Millionaires' Unit is the story of a gilded generation of young men from the zenith of privilege: a Rockerfeller, the son of the head of the Union Pacific Railroad, several who counted friends and relatives among presidents and statesmen of the day. They had it all and, remarkably by modern standards, they were prepared to risk it all to fight a distant war in France. Driven by the belief that their membership in the American elite required certain sacrifice, schooled in heroism and the nature of leadership, they determined to be first into the conflict, leading the way ahead of America's declaration that it would join the war. At the heart of the group was the Yale flying club, six of whom are the heroes of this book. They would share rivalries over girlfriends, jealousies over membership in Skull and Bones, and fierce ambition to be the most daring young man over the battlefields of France, where the casualties among flyers were chillingly high.

One of the six would go on to become the principal architect of the American Air Force's first strategic bomber force. Others would bring home decorations and tales of high life experiences in Paris. Some would not return, having made the greatest sacrifice of all in perhaps the last noble war. For readers of Flyboys, The Greatest Generation, or Flags of Our Fathers, this patriotic, romantic, absorbing book is narrative military history of the best kind.
