| Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices Recently, I noticed some listings for interesting models like the Yak-9, F2A, etc. on ebay which were dubbed IXO-Corgis, when, in fact, they were the usual low quality IXO stuff. An obvious attempt at deception, yet Corgi has apparently done nothing to protect its brand name and the misleading listings are still there. Another example of shoddy sales practice is falsifying the scale of a airplane or AFV model. In one case, I bought an AFV that was listed as approximately 1:72 scale , but in reality was much closer to 1:144. And then there are a number of sellers who consistantly send you repeats of single plane orders, forcing the customer to send back the "extra" for a refund or credit. Such "mistakes" must pay out because many buyers keep the unwanted product rather than going through the hassle of seeking redress. Does anyone esle care to share their own horror stories with us? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices That's why I buy from hobby shops. e-bay is killing them off, though, and I think that they'll be heading for the Last Roundup soon. I don't like all this mail-order business.......you always get the Chancers who will sell shoddy goods or promote material based on misleading advertising literature. I have made about 500 deals on e-bay ( diecast, stamps, fully-built kits, vintage kits, etc. ) and about one in fifty deals are obviously intended to deceive....I accept the 2 per cent of duff deals in cetain areas because I don't want to start a " Feedback War " on e-bay! Having said that, I find that Stamp Dealers are scrupulously honest in their dealings, and will always come to an arrangement or refund if you are not satisfied. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices Epapazian, Hey there. I'm not defending Ebay, I'm not a fan. However, listing a plane as IXO/Corgi in the header will just bring more glances at the product. Folks are more likely to punch Corgi into the eBay search engine than IXO. Are the listings themselves indicating the planes are Corgi models? That would be fraudulent advertising. I don't know what eBay's policing policies are, but I surmise they would at minimum frown upon such things, perhaps being as harsh as banning sales from this seller? Of course, at that point you get into speculation as the seller could say, I'm not sure but I think, blah, blah, blah....... Which leads back to the guess work aspect of eBay. The guess work part of eBay is not fun for me. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices I've noticed that trend on eBay, too. A percentage of these dealers probably are engaging in deception; however I think the majority of these dealers might just be ignorant. They are not into collecting to the extent we are; they may not even collect these things themselves. I notice that a lot of the planes sold on eBay are sold by people who have their own stores, and these people have many different categories of stuff to sell. To them, a diecast plane may be no different than a set of golf clubs, or a set of dishes. It's just something else to sell on eBay. I'd compare it to going to Target and looking for a Target exclusive Johnny Lightning car. If you ask an employee on the floor any questions about it, you may get an informed answer. Just as likely you'll get somebody who has no clue what you're talking about... | |||||||||||||

Once you click onto the detailed description of the model, it is listed simply as a Corgi product, without even mentioning IXO. Now that's a whale of a mistake.

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices
That is BAD - I can understand it if it's in the title as that includes it in saerches that it might be excluded from otherwise, but the description should be accurate. As ever with ebay it's Caveat Emptor - Buyer beware!

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices Much worse than this in my book is selling something really cheap until you see the postage costs. I almost bought a set o poker chips that were going ridiculously cheap - then I noticed the $30 postage Needless to say I didn't buy. Unfortunately with ebay if you push the buy button thinking you've got a great deal and then see it's too late. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Watch Out For Deceptive Sales Practices I have gotten some real deals on Ebay and only once in a few hundred have I had any issues. Poor Packing, if you have half a brain you can weed out the non honest sellers, there are tons of good ones on there and tons of people that love these planes just as much as collectors on here. Of course for them they are trying to make money and ebay while amazing overall, bringing the world to anyone with so many products and all, has a high cost for the seller. Many try to make up some of the cost on shipping, but I can also tell you shipping cost have gone up a lot the last increase by USPS. Overall I am a very happy Ebay Customer and it is a great place to sell off things I no longer need. Flaps | |||||||||||||
