Re: Gerald Ford dead at 93

Yes i heard about it a little while ago.
I will always remember him most for his golf playing ways.
Rest in peace Gerald.

Saw the news in my newspaper this morning, may he rest in peace.

Re: Gerald Ford dead at 93

That is sad. Was he the oldest president still living? George H. Bush has to be getting up there.

Re: Gerald Ford dead at 93

I''ve only seen 2 Presidents in person before. I found myself sitting about 5 tables away from Ford at a Grand Rapids restaurant once and saw Bush II speak in Toledo. I was somewhat close in both cases and must admit they seem more majestic and, presidential in person somehow. I'm sorry he's gone.

No matter if you like a guy or not, he is still the president. Dick Winters said it best"We salute the rank not the man."

You are correct! Does anyone know about his WWII record?

Gerald Ford served in the Navy from 1942-46 on the USS Monterey as the ship's athletic officer and one of the ship's gunnery officers.
While on board the Monterey, Ford saw action in the Pacific Theater in the Battle of Makin.
The ship also took part in attacks against Kwajalein and Eniwetok, New Guinea, Saipan, Guam, and Formosa.
He also survived a typhoon in the Pacific that battered the Monterey on December 18, 1944.
By 1945, Ford was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned to Glenview, Illinois, to train new naval officers for sea duty and by February 1946, he was honorably discharged from the US Navy.

Re: Gerald Ford dead at 93

That's too bad, he was an interesting guy.
Ford (#48) was a center at the university of Michigan (national champions). More importantly, he is the only unelected vice-president or unelected president in US history.

Did all the other's who assumed after the death of the incumbent get re-elected for an additional term?
