Tank or plane?

I was going through some photos in my collection and came across this P-40B/C. Pretty wild idea

Could you imaging the drag/resistance upon landing? Those would have to be some hi-speed tracks.

Interesting...but what is the point? Was this supposed to be able land on different terrain or some such?

I have this very vague recollection that these were all part of a series of experiments in landing systems for "unimproved" runways (i.e., grass strips, tundra, or mud). The idea was to distribute the aircraft weight over a wider area. I do not think it was related to ice/snow landing. I could be wrong, of course.

Actually, I like their Japanese planes and the HS-129. Not so much their US.

Yes, of course, you were responding to a US airplane! I like the Japanese IXO's also. Only game in town for most of them.
