China toy embargo?

Just heard on the news this morning that Congress is thinking about banning toys imported from China because of the lead paint, etc. Will/would this affect our beloved diecast planes and tanks? Dragon, Witty Wings, IXO etc? What do you think? I have even licked or stuck a diecast in my mouth. Well, if I did it was when I was like 2 years old.

Re: China toy embargo?

I suspect yes, if it passes (which it won't). If such imports are banned, the factories will suffer enormous losses (as will Corgi, in connection with much of its business). And I don't know how the law would be able to distinguish "toys" from "collectables", so it's more than likely that it won't (i.e., all completed items of manufacture would be subject to strict controls). But, like I said, things of this sort never pass in Congress.

Re: China toy embargo?

Boy ...If they did that.....It be a sad day for the collector that's for sure....Not all the companies in China are using the lead paint...At least that's what i heard.
If they do have a embargo...There goes the Halifax and WWI fighters and others that are coming out in a few months....

It's nice to see politicians are the same everywhere. They either do nothing or they have a knee jerk reaction and over-kill and screw things up that take 10 times longer to undo because nobody will admit that they screwed up.

Re: China toy embargo?

I contacted Hobby Master about their paint and they assure me there is no lead in their paint.

Re: China toy embargo?

Even if the witless politicians pass such a bill and our brilliant president signs it, I doubt that our hobby will be affected. China's loss will be another Asian country's gain. The only problem will be getting the new player's cheap labor factories up to speed on key design, detailing and QC issues.
