Re: China toy embargo?

Folks,
Congress will never ban toy imports from China. China has more invested in U.S. Treasury bonds than anyone else in the world. They OWN our ecconomy. There may be some grandstanding from both parties due to the fact that we are in an election cycle (Aren't we always?) and hopefully there will be some better regulation on the Chinese end that will protect our children, but we are not going to lose our diecast.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: China toy embargo?

Mattell recalled 2 million items from the shelves of shops today while the owner of the Chinese factory which made the toys shot himself.

Western companies which source toys in China have to comply with EEC regulations when they import them. They are responsible, and I shouldn't think that they were flouting the law. I think that this has been an exception, but some hokey-pokey has been going on!!!

Don't worry. China has loads more junk to send us!

Problem is the western companies are NOT the ones making the toys. The vast majority of these have been sub-contracted out to the cheapest source so that they can put more $$$ into the bottom line.

Mattel go stung because QA system in place to check out these things was being run by the sub-contracted manufacturer who built the product in the first place and was certifying that the goods were safe. Hmm wonder why that failed.

Mattel/Hasbro/etc should also be conducting batch tests independently of the Chinese mfg's to make sure that this stuff is safe. Are they doing that - probably not as it would be increadbly expensive to staff up an operation like that with the volumes of toys these guys are producing in the far east.

Ooops!

Re: China toy embargo?

Sometimes I just cant stop my brain giving me mental pictures, like all you chaps sat watching TV sucking on a diecsat!!!!!!!!

He He now thats funny.

Great observation, Jim. I think the only problem might be if small kids get ahold of them, or if some of our talented folks start sanding down the paint. I don't do either of these things, so...What, me worry!

Well chewing all the lead paint off my cot when I was teething did for me, that explains a lot I think.

Hey MoMO,

The Chinese have a way of getting back at the screw ups, remember just recently another Chinese CEO comitted sucicide. I bet it was tough getting that rifle barrel just to the right part of the back of their head, then being able to reach the trigger.

Question Re: China toy embargo?

This just begs the question: Does anyone here know for sure that Corgi products actually use lead-based paint? I've been sucking on this Lanc for hours and . . . nothin'!
