Hi All,
With the recent recalls of childrens toys at Mattel I'm wondering how much of our beloved collections are painted with similar paints. Knowing none of us would stick their F-14 TomCat in his mouth keeps us fairly safe! I just wonder if we can take a look see at all the models that are made in China "Gosh" First our Pets and now our children????Alph of Spokane WA

Ps. All My Dragon Wing models are "Made in China" Never taken out of the box just as personal prefrence :-)

I don't know about that, but the scumbags are already taking advantage of the situation. Today I received a scam email purporting to be from Amazon inquiring about products with lead based paint that "their records showed" I had bought from them.

No doubt US customs will be monitoring this situation very closely as it would seem that the customs declaration forms were not entirley accurate about the make up of these particular items.
Having been involved in exporting goods to the USA I know just how stringent US when it comes to imported goods.
Even the leather shoes & belts sent to our track support engineers in the US had to be accompanied by a toxicity form (just in case they got bored during a race & decided to suck on them) as well as their ball point pens, any one knowingly making a false declaration on the documentation was liable to a fine up to $250,000 &/or 5 years in prison & the company involved could be banned from trading within the US.

In the UK there used to be a department within the West Midlands Trading Standards Authority that tested all new toys arriving on the UK market but due to government cut backs it no longer exists, does each state within the US have something similar?.

I just posted this in another thread. Hobby Master assures me that their paint is lead free.

Was listening to the radio yesterday.

Apparently Customs said that they try and intercept this sort of stuff at the boarder (ie ports), but here's the catch there are apparently only 15 inspectors for the entire US. Doesn't take a genius to discover that you can ship any old crap and it will be almost guaranteed to get though.

Also they said the Fisher Price mfg did have a QA system in place to check out these things but the problem was that the sub-contracted manufacturer who built the product was also the one running the QA system and certifying that the goods were safe. Hmm wonder why that failed

If they let a disease-ridden attorney who is carrying tuberculosis into the country, even though his name was on a list to detain, do you think they will look twice at the paint on some children's toys? God help us all if we have to rely on the government to fugure it out.
