Re: Thinkin' bout selling out..

But if you have a plan that calls for the best you can get of, say, fifty planes, you can patiently wait until "the right" version of a plane you want to acquire appears in the marketplace.

Good advice.

My problem lies in the fact that I am not willing to gamble on a "better" specimen being available some time down the line, while one that is adequate and available now slips away to the dreaded "sold out" status. As we all know, what may be on a manufacturer's planning schedule today may never come to fruition. Quite a quandary.

Re: Thinkin' bout selling out..

Jeff,
Buddy, If you're done with this hobby, then sell'em off and move on.. There isn't any sense in sitting on them and seeing if they will appreciate in value, but if you are "on the fence" don't do anything you'll regret later.. I have bought and sold my weight in diecast many times over and I have some regrets, but mostly satisfied with my decisions, because the last thing you want to do is get stuck with a bunch of stuff you can't give away even if you wanted to.. (Nascar diecast anyone??)

If you do decide to leave, then best of luck to you and it was a pleasure having your company when you were here..

I think I may just prune the collection..

I went wild and bought up everything I could find..

I think I'll cull some and keep some..

Re: Thinkin' bout selling out..

Harry, where were you when I needed you? I just dumped a ton of old Nascar 1/24 (Action, no less) on the bay. I would have done better to steal the copper gutters off old buildings and sell that.....

Re: Thinkin' bout selling out..

Thanks for the replies guys..

I am still not sure what to do with them.. However, I think the driving factor right now is that I want another toy and could turn these into money..
I don't HAVE to use them, but it would take some of the wifey pressure off when I go and spend $2,500..

Sounds like a very nice toy ( and an expensive one at that )....hey if it will make you happy I'd say go for it!

I just did a similar thing to please the wife -- and upgrade my camera.... Sold off bunch of stuff, still got some more to purge. But somehow a couple new ones have trickled in the door...

Well, in all fairness she didn't start to complain until we decided to move and she started checking all the dark corners of the house for stuff of hers to pack and found airplane boxes crammed everywhere... had to say, she's got a point -- WE NEED A BIGGER HOUSE!

Re: Thinkin' bout selling out..

I just love this place. My wife, who knows very little about aviation, can spot a new model on the shelf from a mile away.

A package at the front door means we will play the usual game of 20 questions (how much did it cost, how much space will it consume, why do I need yet *another* model, etc...), she will say something derisive about my "toys" and then will, in short order, present me with the advert for (fill in the blank), which she just absolutely has to have....

I haven't gotten that far as my NASCAR stuff is still taking up room in my garage.. I guess I'll donate them to an elementary school sandbox one of these days, atleast someone will get some enjoyment out of them..
