CC 177 Canada's first Globemaster in flight test

Got this from Airliners.net. Apparently the GM3 is scheduled into Trenton at some point this week. If anyone is passing by CFB Trenton see if the rumor mill is accurate.

It will be on Static Display and will also fly on the Weekend.

Re: CC 177 Canada's first Globemaster in flight test

I have family in the area mapleflag, and though they're not the best aircraft spotters, they have reported sightings of a very large aircraft (significantly bigger than the C-130's they've seen for decades). I'll see if I can confirm. I think 426 Sqn at Trenton is slated to get the 4 C-17's (CC-177's) Canada has committed to.

Actually it will be a reformed 429 Squadron (Former C-130 squadron).

Further update.

I phoned the Airshow people in Abbotsford.

The C-17 will appear only for a couple of hours on Saturday.

Looks like this plane is in serious demand for some Airlift taskings to Afghanistan.

Time of arrival TBA!

Um just what tests are the Canucks going to do that the USAF hasn't? I mean it is a proven airframe for cargo and airborne ops, oops sorry Canada doesn't have paratroopers anymore.

Point of Order Shawn. While our Canadian Airborne Regiment was disbanded after an unfortunate incident by a few less-than stellar Canadian Forces members, the paratroopers were merely transferred to other units. Thanks Jean Cretin. Dis, dat, and de other ding. My vote for the most embarassing Prime Minister ever.

And, we also have the newly formed (or forming) SOR, or Special Operations Regiment, which will consist of airborne trained troops.

My 2 cents worth, which, by the way are almost worth as much as US 2 cents.

The C-17 is a bit much for SOR Ops don't you think?

Definitely, there's always been the school of thought that the Canadian Government could do better by renting heavy lift from the private sector, but nonetheless, its nice to see our Conservative government actually trying to improve our downtrodden military with new equipment. They'll take alot of pressure off the Hercs, that's for sure.

They'll be useful for sending out the DART, if and when it gets used, and shipping our new (used) Leopard II's to various theatres. Although I'm doubtful that our troops will be used for a while once the Afghan mission is completed.

Eh, what do I know.

These are simply flight tests done by every customer prior to taking delivery of a new airplane.

The same is true when an airline flight tests a new airframe before taking delivery of it.

Once all the checkmarks are in the right boxes the customer officially accepts the aircraft.

Dan

P.S. Canada does indeed still have paratroopers.
