12 step program for diecast

Saved this off the old forum and thought it was great. Forgot who put it together but since we have so many new members here I thought it might help. Super funny!!

12 Step Program For Diecast

Buy your first model; get to looking at it and think, "this is really good quality, I'm quite surprised!".
Step 2:
Start looking around and begin to realize that there are hundreds of REALLY COOL models which are available.
Step 3:
Buy your next few models, set them up and begin to realize that the display would look good with a few more examples.
Step 4:
Buy some "companion models", begin to realize that a proper display case would be in order to protect your investment and keep the kids/cats/dust/wife/everybody who doesn't appreciate the classic lines of the planes, the hell away from your "babies"
Step 5:
Search the web, find tons of diecast stores and resources which make your local supplier or resources look like crud.
Step 6:
Find Model Hangar II and find refuge in a crowd of nuts that encourage and foster your interest and really just make it seem normal... which of course it is!
Step 7:
Continue to buy, of course always being "selective" and continually add "the last model you will need for your collection...."
Step 8: Receive the next catalogue of new models and variations and rationalize a list of 3, no wait 4, or maybe 5,...oh hang on it is actually 8 models and that is all, .... wait, maybe it is 9, but only if I can get the last one at a good price.
Step 9:
Buy another display case.
Step 10:
Decide that this is a harmless hobby and you could be out smoking crack, or killing people (like those who critize your collection...) and that this is an innocent pastime that makes you happy and to heck with everyone else...
Step 11:
Convince wife of the virtues of step 10 and sell her on the innocence of the whole deal. Denial and not the river in Egypt!
Step 12:
Buy more models and remain blissfully happy with your own airforce which looks really cool when you can get a fan blowing on the propellers....:

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Re: 12 step program for diecast

When I clicked on this discussion I thought it was a post the help pull one OUT of the tailspin of diecast destruction - NOT the template for how we all got here -

Need to add step 8.5 - (For U.S. collectors) Discover Tuesday Morning store. Buy every model they have that you maybe had wanted in a fleeting moment (over a year or so ago) and even some you NEVER wanted - but "Who cares?" they are priced at 1/3 - 1/2 Corgi list. No worries, as if you buy extra, they will at least retain their value and you can always trade them off later to folks who are at step 6 on this list. Besides, you have plenty of storage space for these under your queensize bed in your master bedroom (you know your wife won't mind, because she's so loving and supporting of your hobby - ).

Step 8.5 corrollary - Seeing in a post that TM has gotten some specific new planes in stock, Drive to EVERY TM store in a 60 minute radius - multiple times - over a 2 week period - justifying $$$$$ in gas cost to save $$ on the ONE model you are really looking for - i.e. B17 "Bit-O-Lace." Rationalizing all your time/money costs to find this model at a "great price" - based solely on the "Victory" of the find.

Great post...er, re-post.
