Re: Why I hate ebay....

You got a point there, if they admit to Ebay/PayPal they got the item, they should have to return it. So I guess after digesting this one PayPal screwed up. I have never had this kind of thing happen, usualy the customer or buyer will not admit to having the item at all.

Flaps

Yeah, some loser stole their account, won the item, paid for it, had the item shipped to their doorstep, and he hid in the bushes until the postman dropped it off, snagged it and ran...

Even if "some loser" stole their account, I doubt he would bother to use it again a couple weeks later to leave feedback for the auction, don't you? And again -- they admitted to having the item, so why didn't they have to return it?

More likely one of their own kids used the account without their permission and the parents didn't want to fess up to it, and make good on it.

They lied, they got Paypal's backing.

But in the big picture I still think paypal is worth the occassional hassle.

So, to get back to the topic, occasionally, I hate ebay -- and Paypal -- too (But usually just because I wish I had thought of either of 'em myself! ) You'd think with all that money they're making they could put a bit more effort into customer service....

Re: Why I hate ebay....

3% is a high fee? for them to take money for you and put in into your account, then for free they will transfer it to your bank account if you do not have the Free ATM Debit Car which by the ways pays you a kickback if you use it for purchases.

I can not believe they do not do this service for us for free.

Trying to make a buck, they must be nuts.

Stinky PayPal.

Flaps

Yeah but they are owned by Ebay who also charge you 3% plus the listing fee....it soon mounts up!

Re: Why I hate ebay....

3% Paypal fee + 5.25% Ebay final value fee + Listing fee + Seller's cost for item = not much left. So what does a seller do, pass these costs to the buyer? Maybe that will work for a rare item where there isn't much competition, but what about a new release of say a Corgi model where you have at least a dozen plus retailers offering the same product for roughly the same price? Martin @ The Flying Mule had it right that ebay is best used as an advertising tool to get your website out to the public because otherwise it is not a valid business platform.

Thumbs up Re: Why I hate ebay....

Ebay runs specials all the time at least twice a month, I look out for those and usually list more on those days, lowering my cost to sell substantially. Plus there is no other site like this on Earth, where millions of people know to go, to find any thing they might want and feel safe purchasing this way.

The other day they had a special and I listed stuff for 20 cents per item, pretty cheap if you ask me.

But even on regular listings you can still make out on most items. If you have something you no longer want, at least there is a place that is easy and safe to sell it in.

I sold of some Star Wars items that no longer have any value and raised around $300.00 which was pretty close to what I paid, and used the money to re-buy some Matchbox planes I had missed, and most at a pretty good deal and I paid less for shipping than some lousy stores listed on here as great deals.

I also got lucky on 2 or 3 items as they got bid up and went for nice money.

I will also tell you I take pride in my auctions and take time to get nice pics and logos that have to deal with the item as well as detailed info, I have seen some real lazy listers on the site that dont deserve to sell the item based on so little work to try and sell it.

One more thing,

If an item that sells for say $30.00 plus shipping , Ebay gets usually less than $2.50, netting the seller $27.50 plus probably a $1.00 on shipping. And if you get in on the specials day it is only around $1.75 cost to sell the item easily and pretty safely, you also have the chance it will get bid up.

I just sold a Subwoofer I got a deal on around 5 months ago, never used it. It was worth 100.00, I got it for 60.00 and sold it on Ebay today for $90.00, Ebay charged me 20 cents to list it, and then 3.81 when it ended, the buyer paid with PayPal so I got my money already, no wait for BS checks in the mail. I made out on this some and could not have sold it easier anywhere else. I cleared $83.50. Not too bad and the buyer got something he wanted at a deal that was not bad either. Win Win for all parties.

I think it is like anything else, there is ome good, and some bad. You just have to be careful.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
