Re: Why I hate ebay....

PayPal is much faster and much safer for all involved. Money orders are no longer 100% guarantee and mailing cash can not be the best idea in the world.

I have had two from Canada, that were not real and the bank accepted them then called me around 10 days later.

Stick with PayPal, things get shipped faster and you rarely get burned unless you ship to the non verified address or the item is lost in shipping and not insured.

Flaps

A quick search on ebay's own discussion forum reveals many, many sellers who disagree. You bring up an interesting point, if the item is lost in shipping and the buyer did not pay for insurance, who is at fault? In Paypal's opinion, it is the seller's fault. Read some of these posts and I think you will be amazed: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jspa?forumID=97

I believe the seller is usually safe if they ship to a confirmed address, that appears to be the sticking point -- and you should always use trackable shipping methods. Though I sold an item and shipped to a confirmed address, the buyer than claimed their account was used fraudulently some 30 days later -- after leaving positive feedback, mind you -- and paypal backed the buyer instead of me because I had thrown away the shipping receipts and couldn't prove the item was shipped. There was never any dispute from the buyer that the item wasn't shipped. Paypal customer service was/is terrible..

And it was too late for me to even leave the buyer neg feedback... but in some 300 transactions, I've only been burned once (knock on wood).

Re: Why I hate ebay....

I have only ever had a few issues in 7 years, both selling off a large toy collection must have been 250 auctions on that one and buying, and the issues were usually a stupid buyer or my own fault. I get the money almost instantly as apposed to waiting weeks sometimes, for money orders, then the buyer needs to wait for me to deposit it and make sure it clears these days.

I think I had one shipping issue in the 250 toy sales, and it was overseas of course and no ones fault but USPS or Customs or the Overseas Carrier.

So you want PayPal to make the buyer lose out when you are the shipper and the item is lost?? That does not seem to fair, and there are ways around it, make all your auctions include insurance no matter what, keep good records of the shipment, you would be covered and you would have gotten your payment instantly, your customer would have his item that much sooner and not have to get a money order, mail it, and you have to wait for it and deposit it and on and on.

I dont care what the Ebay Members say, since you will always read more about issues since people love to complain, the Sales that go perfect you will rarely if ever hear about on a Forum like that, if they had an issue with PayPal they are at least 50% to blame for the issue, I guarantee it.

And the cost is the same as taking a credit card or less which most people can not do anyway. Well worth it compared to snail mail and delays and trips to the bank as well.

Thumbs up Re: Why I hate ebay....

How do you expect PayPal to side with you if you can not prove you shipped the item??

You should keep shipping info for at least 180 days on any sale Ebay or Otherwise.

Seems your doing ok anyway with 300 sales, I am guessing most paid with PayPal and only one issue, pretty good track record there.

If you took 300 checks and money orders, I bet you would have more than one that you never got and more than one that was questionable.

Let's see:

AGain: There was NO dispute with the buyer that the item was NOT shipped/received, they said they had it, so the proof of shipping was a moot issue. Why would I have to prove I shipped an item that the buyer said they recieved and left positive feedback for??????????

Obviously, now I know to retain receipts for 1 year, but after I received positive feedback from the buyer I had figured I was safe to toss the receipts in this particular case. Again, now I know better.

(I still don't understand why the buyer did not have to return the item to get their money back. Paypal gave them their money back, and they kept the item... that's real fair. Hmmm, should the fact that I tossed the shipping receipt make that okay? I don't think so.)

The buyer never claimed that they did not have the item, only that they did NOT buy it -- they claimed someone fraudulently used their account. If you believe that... I've a bridge to sell ya

Paypal used a loophole in their fineprint to get out supporting me, even though it should have been obvious to ANYONE the buyer was pulling a fast one. Paypal didn't care about logic, truth, and the evidence, just that they could quote their policy to get out of putting any more thought into it. They didn't care that I was being ripped off.

And a great deal of my transactions have been MOs, checks (a few), and cash a few times... no problems with any of those. (Now, I only accept paypal, cuz it's so darn convenient, and MOs).

3% is a high fee? for them to take money for you and put in into your account, then for free they will transfer it to your bank account if you do not have the Free ATM Debit Car which by the ways pays you a kickback if you use it for purchases.

I can not believe they do not do this service for us for free.

Trying to make a buck, they must be nuts.

Stinky PayPal.

Re: Why I hate ebay....

How do you know the real user did not have there acount stolen by some loser, I had that happen one time realized it within an hour and Ebay and PayPal took care of all issue that occured in that time frame and had me back up and running withing 3 hours.

The loser that stole the account tried to do a 1 day high dollar auction with instant payment required.

Your buyer may be an occasional user of Ebay / PayPal and did not realize what had happened until some time had passed?

Or maybe PayPal messed up on this one. I have talked with them on the phone and by chat and they always seem reasonable to me and usually help me out if I am really correct on the issue.

Yeah, some loser stole their account, won the item, paid for it, had the item shipped to their doorstep, and he hid in the bushes until the postman dropped it off, snagged it and ran...

Even if "some loser" stole their account, I doubt he would bother to use it again a couple weeks later to leave feedback for the auction, don't you? And again -- they admitted to having the item, so why didn't they have to return it?

More likely one of their own kids used the account without their permission and the parents didn't want to fess up to it, and make good on it.

They lied, they got Paypal's backing.

But in the big picture I still think paypal is worth the occassional hassle.

So, to get back to the topic, occasionally, I hate ebay -- and Paypal -- too (But usually just because I wish I had thought of either of 'em myself! ) You'd think with all that money they're making they could put a bit more effort into customer service....
