Great Display Case

Just a "head's up" for everyone. Been looking for a case for quite some time and this weekend ran across the Ikea Norden display cabinet. Very nice case, easy to add lighting and solid wood frame (veneer shelves). Highly recommend if anyone is looking - couple of pics, you can check out some closeups in my gallery...

Re: Great Display Case

excellent choice! I actually have this in black. I purchased mine in the "as is" section, got a heck of a deal (although it was defective. Came with two right doors). I have since modified it and it is close to completion. I will take some pics and give a description of the project shortly.

I like the interior lighting on the display case.

Re: Great Display Case

Nice -- can you add extra glass shelves to it? (like with the billy cabinets -- I added four glass shelves to mine). If you can, this may be just the ticket I've been looking for to replace my bookshelf I'm using for my larger scale stuff and heavies.

Re: Great Display Case

Pappy,

I found a local glass and mirror place and had them make me a couple of extra glass shelves. $25 a piece.

Ah, so did you drill the support mounts in the sides yourself then? (How did you mount 'em? I'm crap with a toolbelt -- but I can build ya a PC blindfolded )

Sorry, not trying to hijack here -- hopefully this is still enough on topic..

This cabinet has pre-drilled holes all along the side so you can adjust the space between shelves. Unfortunately they're not the entire length of the cabinet, so there are limitations but you still have quite a bit of adjustability room. Ikea stocks the pegs for these holes, normally you can get them for free or a small fee. (like $1 for 8)

It don't get much easier than that.

Cool, thanks for the info (strange that they don't stock the glass shelves then, too -- you can buy extras for the Billy System, for example, for like $9).
