Re: New Detolf Colors

I'm about to order my first Detolf, probably black/brown shelf color, and I'm curious about what scale and number of die cast models you display. I'm primarily into 1:72; however, I'm starting down the WW 1 1:48 biplane path and need a clean, safe place to display the expensive little darlins. Frolm what I've read, guys who have them, love them.

Unless you plan to customize the case with extra shelves a la Hawk's instructions (love to see pics of that) I wouldn't go for the Detolf for 1:72 or even 1:48 WWI models myself.... the shelves are so far apart that larger models will show better in it. I used mine, without modification, for 1:32 and 1:35 models and it looked pretty nice.

Perhaps it would work okay for 1:72 heavies, but you'd likely want to add more shelves.. (I was thinking that if you added at least four more shelves to the Detolf it would look cool to put a Corgi heavy on each one... )

The Billy System is great for 1:72 (everything but 4-engine heavies) and 1:48 ww1 and ww2 fighters, and this one looks interesting as a possible alternative to the detolf...

IKEA | Cabinets & sideboards | Display cabinets | BIBY | Glass-door cabinet

(looks like it would raise the display level of the shelves versus the detolf to a more natural and pleasing level... and you could do someting creative with that bottom rack perhaps?)

Re: New Detolf Colors

these are definately the case of choice for me...

I agree! There is a brand new IKEA store that just opened here in Orlando. I plan on getting 3 of these for starters. Maybe 4 possibly. Well,,,with all the new items coming out in 2008... then more maybe even.

Definitely will look at the BIBY. Thanks for the input.

Re: New Detolf Colors

I am not a big fan of the Biby. It looks good on the website but in person it looks/feels a little cheesy IMO. The Detolf looks great and for the price, there's nothing really like it. I have two and may go for two more.
