Displaying your models in general

Hi guys,
Many of us have large collections in a range of scales. Some will fit on the shelf and others alittle larger shelves. I worked for an outfit that use to salvage displays from old JCPennys Macy's and the like so I was able to pick up some nice rotisory displays for my NASCARs. Then I began collecting Motorworks,Dragon wings,Wooster, and Pacific models. Then I suddenly recieved a 1:6th scale LittleBird and things went south on me!

Every year we make a new renovation to our home I'm up to 5 1:18th scale models. I've seen guys hang these models, but I'm un easy with this, so I thought maybe a plexiglass rack of some sort. This would cradel the model in such a way that a guy can poise the model at several angles even inverted. This comes on the heels of our living room renovation and bed room. Since I buy these to display and can put them back a rack for each would work well. Visitors enjoy seeing these models and don't seem to actually go over and look at them on the table. Cats don't even go near them because of their size. I'm clear to put them any where in the house as long as it fits the area. The Breakfast nook has some great possibilities....Alph

Well, I would love to see pictures of your house and how you manage.
And I wonder what a 1/6 littlebird looks like.
I wonder what a littlebrid looks like in fact.

Re: Displaying your models in general

Of all my 1/18's that i have been hanging up only 1 fell due to me not using the right weight fishing line and it snapped and the plane was lucky nothing broke due to landing on the pile of old laundry that day.
Since then i have been using 25lb lines and nothing has come down since 2002.
So now i have re-modeled my storage room and re-done all the lines last year ...So i know i'm ok for another 5yrs before changing it again.
As long as you use a coated hook and have it mounted on the 2x4 you will be ok.
I always loop my lines a few times around the hook so that it does not slide and it works great.

Re: Displaying your models in general

Hi Starman,
"WOW" I would have passed out to have one of the 1:18th fall down! I do hang some of the other models with 100 pound test on existing hooks the last dwellers used for hanging lamps. Anytime we buy a new model it gets some flight time. Atlantic models has huge floor stands that they put their models on. If you've seen one they are usually in a travel agency or airport. More like a gate guard than anything. I believe much of the 21st Century models would be hard to replace parts on if dammaged. We even put these collections in our insurance policy. Theft,Fire. A guy can quickly accumulate thousands in a collection. For now they sit in boxes until I get these renovations complete. Of course I take them out of their boxes to see how they look assembled but always put them away like a good BOY

Re: Displaying your models in general

Hi TopHat,
The littleBird I have is the Hughes 500-D version. The model is 1/6th scale and was given to me on a birthday in 2001. It came with a GI Joe style pilot accept it to is made by 21st Century. I can post a photo later if you want to see it. I've never actually assembled the rotors as it look great with out them. I know they have a smaller version lately, but not quite as impressive as this was. The other version I missed out on was the 500-C which was Red and White with the Y tail. I know where one is but It's over a hundred for the darn thing. Any ideas on how to display it???
