Britannias at Corgi Field

Britannias at Corgi Field

Some time ago the American Chapter of the Bristol Britannia Collectors Society held a fly-in at International Airport (Corgi Field) and I thought I’d share some photos of that occasion with members of this forum.

1. An overview of the main ramp.

2. Bristol Britannia 253/C Mk. 1, XM-496, RAF Transport Command, a stretched-fuselage version. This aircraft is having problems with #1 engine and is receiving an external power start. The power requirements of the 4000 hp. Bristol Proteus engines have rocked the power cart back on two wheels!

3. Bristol Britannia 102, G-APLL, BKS Air Transport. This is a short-fuselage version and is preparing to load baggage.

4. Bristol 175 Britannia 312, G-AOVH, Monarch Airlines, about to receive in-flight meals from the catering truck. In the hangar is a Vickers Viscount V.802, G-AOJC, BEA Scottish Airways, receiving maintenance.

5. A low angle view of the Monarch bird with the air freight terminal behind its tail.

6. A low angle view of the BKS bird with the baggage carts arriving.

7. Delta Airlines was kind enough to send their tug over to move the BKS bird to the ramp.

8. The engine check over and the external power disconnected, the power cart is back on an even keel. Over on the military side of the field two C-97 Stratocruisers may be seen in the background.

9. Bristol 175 Britannia 102, G-ANBA, belonging to BOAC, is surrounded by ground support equipment.

That looks great! And a bit more ambitious than my 8 Britannias just lined up sitting on their L/G.

Question: Where do you find all that super 1:144 ground equipment? (Corgi passenger ramp that came with G-ANBA excluded?)
