Re: Hanging planes from the ceiling

I use these vinyl hooks when i put up my 1/18's.
The vinyl holds the line better and won't let the line slip or slide on the hook.
I wrap my line around the vinyl hook about 2 or 3 times.
Make sure the hook is in the wood and not just the drywall.

I learned the hard way about putting it just into the drywall I'll try on my F-86 wrapping the line around the hook a few times and see how it goes.

Re: Hanging planes from the ceiling

Ouch....That had to hurt putting it in the drywall..Hope the jet didn't fall off.
I use a 25lbs line on my light planes but for the Heavy ones like the TBM ,Me262 ,F-86 ,F-18 and F-16 i use the 50lbs line just to be save.
Of all these planes i have hanging from the ceiling only one has fallen and the was the P-40B and the 10lbs line just snaped after being on there for about 2 years or so.Thank god it landed on the open hideabed that day...no damage either to the plane.
So since then i put new lines on all of them to be safe.
Also 25 to 50lbs is a good line to use to be on the safe side.

Re: Hanging planes from the ceiling

I'm using 35 lbs on a MiG-15 and I will soon on my F-86. I bought a stud finder to mount my F-86 tonight and well...the stupid thing only has a 1 out of 5 true sucess

Smile Re: Hanging planes from the ceiling

Use to hang a lot of models when I was young. Never had one fall and I just used a deep thread hook into the dry wall. Biggest thing I hung was a 1:32 skyhawk. No ceiling fans were in the room . Now that I'm older I'd probably use a long hook into a stud or a dry wall anchor.
