Commercial Display Cases are the way to go.

Example found at Modern Office

I think that commercial display cases are the only way to go. You can't get this much glass in a consumer unit with paying through the nose. Also there is a large distribution network for second hand commercial furniture.

Re: Commercial Display Cases are the way to go.

That does look like the best option...how do you get in contact with the network?

There is usually an outlet in just about every major city, but the best way to shop is via the internet. Try searching terms like "Commercial Display Cases" on Google.com.

My display cases comprise of the following. Modified Detolf Cabinets and aquarium tanks. I hope to complete all my present ideas by January. Will get a decent photographer (it's not my thing) to present for me. Swoop.

Re: Commercial Display Cases are the way to go.

I agree totally on using commercial display cases everything I've found in this area is just loaded with wood and stupid designs in the glass. The case I have now is by far the best I could find but it's really not that great and I wouldn't mind replacing it.

Re: Commercial Display Cases are the way to go.

The best solution I have found is the modified Detolf display case - just completed my second one this week. With welding, paint and extra glass they still average under $150 each and store 30-40 planes. It's also pretty compact. Not my ideal solution but it keeps most of the dust off and little prop-spinning fingers away.

I have checked out a few used office furniture places around my house and have yet to find anything that is acceptable - usually too commercial looking.

My dream case is this merchandise display case at the local Audi dealership I call on. It would be perfect for my collection and it has halogen lighting (easily a $3K unit). I keep telling my retailer that I want the case and that if they ever go to get rid of it to call me first. One can always dream....

Re: Commercial Display Cases are the way to go.

Another source for display cases is to keep your eyes open for stores going out of business. They somtimes sell off most of their display cases. I have a great case about 7 foot long 12 inches deep and 5 foot high. Now if i can just get all the wifes stuff out of it I would be set.
If you have an IKEA near you they have some very nice cases

IKEA | home | Bookcases & storage | Bookcases & cabinets | Glass-door cabinets

Also check out their Billy line of book cases. You can get glass shelves and doors for them

Got any pics on how you use the fish tanks?

This thread here illustrates what you've requested fairly well.
