Re: Dioramas and Displays

I've had a few ideas pop into my mind. Originally I bought a bunch of 21st Century Toy's 1:18 scale Vietnam era figures. I wanted to make a firebase but it would be way too big. Since I collect 1/72 scale aircraft I'd love to do something with them. I'd love to make an airbase but size vs. aircraft is a problem. For example, your standard 3,000ft airstrip which can take C-130's, and all Fighter/Attack aircraft in 1/72 scale would make it 12.7m long haha. Now a runway thats 1500ft. long turns to 6.35m long BUT the only aircraft that can use it are light prop aircraft like the OV-10 Bronco, O-1 Bird Dog, C-7 Caribou etc. but no company makes those aircraft haha. So for now that has been put to the side.

I've considered making a heliport, I'd like to do a company because its the smallest in size for a helicopter unit thats intact. Size wise its a lot easier to do. The bad thing is that I'd need 31 Huey's (1 UH-1B or C, 2 platoons of 11 UH-1D's and one gunship platoon of 8 AH-1G's or UH-1B or C gunships) and if I went with 31 huey's soon to be released by MRC Easy Model at $10 each, thats $310 before shipping haha . So that project has been put to the side.

Right now I'm thinking of just a more simple diorama around one of my soon to arrive HM Phantoms or Skyhawks. I'd like to build a shelter around my aircraft. Nothing too rock solid but enough to keep mortar and rocket frag from punching holes in my nice shiny planes. Anyone know there proper names? I can't really dig up any information or measurements on them other than a few pictures. Any ideas or help would be awesome. Thanks.

You will find all you need to know here even the dimensions
