1/72nd Scale IMAM Ro.57 Project.

Latest project arrived in the mail today. It is a CMR resin 1/72nd scale kit of the Italian IMAM Ro.57. Like quite a few resin kits, well as you can see from the plans you are pretty much on your own when it comes to figuring out how it goes together. Fortunately this one looks pretty easy. Have to deal with a vacuform canopy, and with this one you also have to separate the landing gear doors if you want to display it gear down. Nothing in the way of cockpit detail, so I will have to dig through my parts box to at least have just a bit of cockpit detail with this one. Spent a couple of hours today sanding down the mold lines on the fuselage, but that's about it so far. So far this looks like it is going to be a fun project.

The indepth model plans.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Most of the sanding is done, and it is now sporting it's base coat prior to painting. One thing about these kits that is a major challenge, and that is the vacuform canopies. Cutting and trimming them can be a real pain, but the way you have to go with these kits. Model went together fairly easy and only bit of work left is drilling some guide holes for the landing gear.

Re: 1/72nd Scale IMAM Ro.57 Project.

Well getting close to having this one done. The landing gear and gear door setup was a bit of a chore. No reference point for where to drill the mounting point and a bit of sanding involved to get the gear doors to seat properly. Vacuform canopy was a pain, but what you have to work with on these short run kits. Have to do some weathering and add an antenna aerial to finish this one up. I am thinking the next project may be an Arado Ar-68.

With a bit of finishing touches this one is done. Resin kits are a bit of a challenge, but still fun to build.

Re: 1/72nd Scale IMAM Ro.57 Project.

Nice job, CC. Having attempted to build a vacuform kit, I appreciate how tough it is to prepare the parts---especially the canopy--prior to assembly. You certainly picked one of Italy's less well known planes for this project. As I recall, there was a ground attack version of the Ro.57 that carried several 20mm canons, plus a bomb load, while the fighter version had only two machine guns and was woefully underarmed.
