1/48th scale Spitfire on floats project

Current project is a Gartex 1/48th scale Spitfire on floats. Model is basically a Hasegawa Sptifire Mk.5b with resin & white metal parts to make float plane conversion.Trickiest part of the conversion (And you have to get this part right), is removal of existing tail so as to be able to replace this with resin tail assembly. Other than that step, model pretty much goes together pretty easy. Another nice feature of this model is that it comes with white metal beaching gear for the floats. Model has getting pretty close to completion and just a few more items to prep (paint prop, spinner and beaching gear). This week will prep model for putting on decals, put on some exhaust stains, and it will pretty much be close to completion. Here a couple of photos of the progress, one from mide week and what I just finished up today. Like this model so much that I hunted down another one for a latter build.

Mid week progress

Todays work on model.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Should have this one completed sometime this week. I also have the side access door cut out to display in the open position.

Model coming along. A few more bits of detail put on today. Tomorrow will prep model for putting on decals and shoot probably will do most of the decalling tomorrow. Should have this one pretty much done by Friday (Yeah). Already have paints on order for the next project, which will be a PZL P.11C.

These were all prototypes, or were they?

You would correct. Looks like there were a total of three prototype Spitfires on floats. They were based on the Spitfire Mk.Vb. This one is W3760 with the revised vertical stabilizer and modified carberator intake.

Re: 1/48th scale Spitfire on floats project

Forgot about how much fun it is to put on decals that are a bit on the old side. Thought for sure I would have decals all on in just a little over an hour. Nope have to baby them on, lots of solveset too.
