Lightbulb What are you building???

I thought it would be interesting to find out what the builders in our ranks are working on, tips, kit reviews etc...
Feel free to post photos of the in progress work. Air, land or sea. Even Sci fi! I do a little of all these so lets hear it!

With all of the great die cast out there I have turned my building to the more unusual or unrepresented subjects. Right now I am wrapping up a Hasagawa 48th Machi 202. I am @ the office now but will put up some photos later.

Also on the workbench now: 350th USS Essex (1942), 144th B-36, and a sweet little 72nd A-4MU Skyhawk

I just picked up the Trumpeter 144th TU-95 Bear. Very nice kit and a subject which will look good parked w/ my Corgi 144's

Re: What are you building???

Well at this time i'm building a Revell 1969 kit P-51B Mustang of Don Gentile's Shangri-La 1:32 scale.
Kit is all built up and painted and it's waiting fo me to put the decals on it.
One problem the decals might shatter because they are so old i have the decal stuff called Micro-Sol decal Ex-Strength setting solution that i will be trying later on.

I'm working on the same 1/32 P-51B, but mine is Beeson's "Bee". I wanted "Shangri-La" as it was the one I did when I was 12, but couldn't find it on E-bay when I got the hankering to build it. I'm down to adding the last few "fiddly bits" and it'll be done. Just gotta find a place to store these big boys. . . .
A suggestion on the decals - scan them before you tryto use them, then if they come apart, you can buy some decal paper and print them out again. Wal-Mart sells a Testor's decal set that comes w/a couple of small pieces of paper, and the spray can of film to go over them. You can also use it on pre-printed decals to protect them if you think they might come apart, but be prepared to have to let them soak a lot longer before the decal comes off the paper.

Other models currenlty in progress: Tamiya 1/48 "Shangri-La", P-47D Razorback, and another F4U Wildcat. I also have several 1/72 scale a/c in various stages of completeness, including but not limited to a P-39, P-51, SBD, Sopwith Camel, Fokker Dr 7, etc.
I tend to work on whatever strikes my fancy at the moment - that way I don't get burned out on any one project.

Thanks for the tip i'll do that.
Thats why i'm building this one my father built the 1:32 "Shangri-La" when i was a kid so i'm going to return him the favor.
I also picked this up on ebay for 35.00 still in the wrap.

Re: What are you building???

Right now I am working on a 1/144th scale C-123 Provider, a 1/48th scale Birdog, and a 1/1 scale T-6!

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: What are you building???

I'm working on a set of twins, the M36 and M36B1 Tank Destroyers in 1/35th scale. I can't build aircraft to save my life, so I buy them. But I can crank out armor stuff.

Re: What are you building???

It's many a year since I built a kit, but I recently panic bought several Airfix kits such as their 1/32 multipose soldiers and 1/72 soft skin vehicles. No doubt someone else will take over their molds but you never know, and I just may want some refueler trucks etc one day.

Re: What are you building???

Have several kits on the "backburner" untill I'm able to get some time to finish 'em off:
A) 1/32 Academy F-18D: Cockpit done (considering adding some fiber optics and scratch built consoles), some minor assembly to fuselage/wing components, intakes 80%.
B) 1/35 Tamiya Chally II, 70% complete, need to add some anti skid detail, finish up some smaller details on turret, then it's ready for paint/weathering.
C) 1/72 Hasegawa F-14 VF-103 Last Flight, some minor assemblies complete, cockpit begun with some detailing, wings/control surfaces started.
D) DML BTR-70: 80% done, needing some finish work on the wheels, thinking about doing some interior detailing with hatches displayed open.
E) DML M1A1 AIM, dont know why I purchased this last weekend with so many kits in the stash, and so many kits unfinished, but you know how it is! Construction begun on turret and upper hull and 50% of the suspension. Details in this kit are incredible, so for any of you folks who enjoy building targets, this kit is worth checking out.

Man 352 you are a glutton for punishment! Those old Revell kits can really challenge your sanity @ times. But as you showed us w/ your Tripe, can result in a superior model w/ patience. I hack away on some of the old Aurora stuff now and then. If you can fight through the fit issues you can get some very nice results.
The old Airfix bombers were the ones, which drove me batty, thanks to Corgi for making my Airfix Lancaster a collectors item and took it off my build list!
Good luck w/ the decals, they do make some sets aftermarket w/ should help if your originals crack up.
