Removing glue smudges

I just completed the Italieri 1/72 OH-58D and I've decided to take the chance to remove my glue smudges from the canopy. Since it is already built, does anyone have any tips?

Re: Removing glue smudges

The only thing I know to do is get some buffing/polishing sticks and sand the glue off.. I have never done it, but I have seen it done..

Re: Removing glue smudges

Do you think rubbing alcohol could help?

Re: Removing glue smudges

Be careful. Paint thinner will cloud the plastic, so I imagine that alcohol might do the same. If you have a throw-away canopy piece you can use for a test, try it.

Chemically, there isn't anything you can do to remove glue from clear parts.. Alchohol won't touch the glue at all..

Re: Removing glue smudges

Oh well. I'll pretty much leave it as is. It's not that bad, but it just bugs me.

Re: Removing glue smudges

Cav, I'm afraid you're SOL here.

People should never, ever attach clear pieces with anything other than white glue (or Testors makes a product specifically for gluing clear parts, however I think Elmer's works just as well)...Generally there is never any "load" on clear pieces so white glue is more than enough to secure them..It dries clear and will not craze the plastic, and it's easy to remove any excess after it has dried..

Re: Removing glue smudges

There is also canopy glue made and that is what it is called – similar to white glue and used by RC community. It will not melt the plastic and it is easy to use. Another product I like is goo.
