Dang it, I wish I would have had Skunky's advice last week. Oh well. I wanted to build one of these to complete my U.S. Army helicopter OIF collection. I'm tempted to buy a 1/72 AH-1W to complement my USMC Dragon armor pieces. Anyways, here's a few pics to show how small the OH-58D. Next to it is a Dragon M1114 and a U.S. quarter:

If you're brave enough, you could try a variable speed Dremel with a buffing wheel & some Dremel buffing compound. This could, however, make things worse if you're not careful. If you have too much speed or press too hard, the Dremel buffing wheel can melt the plastic more. Practice on some scrap first.

Re: Removing glue smudges

And of course you know better than to use super glue for clear plastic. Some years ago when I was using Superglue near some clear plastic the fumes made my finger prints and smudges really stand out. Since then I noted on shows like CSI etc that criminal investigation people use the same vapor to fix prints.

Re: Removing glue smudges

There was an article in Fine Scale Modelling once that talked about it. I want to say they used a polishing compound to buff it out and then some Future floor polish to brighten it up. I build armor, so this isn't an issue I've had to deal with.

Re: Removing glue smudges

I purchased the same kit again so I could build a new one...without smudges.

Re: Removing glue smudges

Excellent! Nice job on that model. But I hope some day someone will make a diecast version in 1/48, to go with my Model Power AH-64s. Who knows....

I got to ride in one of those (OH-58D) in Schweinfurt (1/4 Cav) a few years ago. That was fun. Very nice optics!

Re: Removing glue smudges

They are beautiful in flight. Even without any formal FAC training, I was able to speak with these aircraft and Apache pilots in Iraq. The enemy refer to them as 'mosquitoes' apparently.
