Planespotting

Last edited by admin : 06-13-2008 at 12:39 AM.
Thought I'd try to kick off a thread on "planespotting" -- just a spot to post pics of any interesting aircraft that fly in our collective necks of the woods. This weekend my "stalking" at the local, very small, airport in Petaluma was rewarded with these two beauties. The little stunt plane even buzzed the field before landing. I found a nice little hole in the fence on approach where I can get close enough for some decent shots.

If anyone's interested -- the Stearman is for sale

What's flying over your house?

(please check image links!)

Re: Planespotting

It has been a while since I have seen a Stearman flying around my local area.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Planespotting

Pappy, nice idea for a thread. I live 3 miles from NAS JRB Willow Grove, so even with the base on the way out, there's still a decent amount of traffic, mainly local (C-9s, C-130s, and A-10s) but here's some transient stuff that has been in.

Man I miss our Dolphins.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Planespotting

Beautiful pictures. Pappy and Waltz... what lenses are you using? Outstanding! By the way, Pappy, the third posted pic of the Stearman looks like it was taken by a chase plane! How did you get that angle???

Hey Elmer! I shoot with a D200 and a Sigma APO DG 70-300mm lens, which is really too short for the work but it's all I could afford (best lens I've ever seen for $150 though!)... I found a hole in the fence on the approach lane for this strip, so I'm slighly behind the planes as they touch down, the crop may give the appearance that I'm "flying alongside", which was my goal

It's a digital SLR camera made by Nikon -- course right after I bought mine for a pretty penny, they announced the D300 and made my "new" camera instantly obsolete!

But, it's still a rockin' camera...
