Re: Tiger photo.

Jim, I’ve gotta tell ya, I’ve been ogling your photos for over an hour. What I wouldn’t give to see those AFVs in person. Stunning! Thanks!!!

By the way, could you post more photographs of your environs? Yorkshire is extraordinarily beautiful. Is all of England that breathtaking? Love to visit there.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Sorry about this really bad photo but I thought I would post it just to show how full the museum is.

Re: Tiger photo.

Another shot of the Tiger mk1 with the armour piercing shell strike showing that put the turret out of action.
Story is that an Allied soldier jumped on the tank and hammered away at the round and knocked it free thus giving the Allies a fully operational Tiger.(after the crew had scarpered of course).

Just image these giants coming at you and the best you can do is scratch the paintwork with your anti tank guns.

I lived next door to a Desert rat, and he told me a few stories of fighting against german tanks in the early days of the war.
He was sat in his little scrape with his crew and a 2 pounder anti tank gun.
The German armour just rolled straight over them and they had to run for their lives down the flanks of the tanks and head into the desert .
They then waited for a lull in the fighting and crawled around the Germans and got back to their lines.
He said the 2 pounder was a complete waste of time and that they might just as well throw rocks for all the good the 2 pounders made.
What was left of the anti tank crews were sent to Syria to re-equip with the new heavy caliber guns that were just coming on stream.

When I grumble at life I just think about all the men that faced such dreadful actions and then I realize just what an easy life I have had and that I should be happy with my lot. It really makes a guy stop and think.

God Bless America.

I will take a few more and post them Gort, Yorkshire is a real mix of a landscape, from old industrial towns and some of those I wouldnt show anyone ( lets just call them ethnic areas and leave it at that ) but also Yorkshire has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Yorkshire was the birthplace of the industrial revolution and the scars are still there to be seen.

Thanks to all of you for your nice comments.

BTW at this time of year you can see every shade of green and olive drab that exist. Sadly thats because we get lots of rain!

Re: Tiger photo.

Jim,
I have to say that your museum is a treasure. All those beasts look like you could hop in a fire them up.

I used to live up the road from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. They have a great selection of tanks, but they are all outside and heavily painted to prevent rust and other outdoors nastiness. While you can poke and prod the tanks all you want, you can tell they are beaten down hulks. (At least they were preserved that way 10 years ago the last time I was there.)

The tanks at your place are pristeen and my mouth has been watering over all your pictures. Thanks again so much so takingthe time to post all the pictures.

If I could ask a small favor? Could you list the tanks in each picture? While I recognize most of them, there are a few I couldn't place. Again, thanks, your pictures are AWESOME!

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Tiger photo.

Considering the sweltering, tropic-island conditions many Japanese tankers served in, can you imagine what it was like to crew the Ha-Go? My gadfry – the interior must have rivaled a sardine tin.

Makes you wonder if Dragon Armor would even consider producing it. Probably not a lot of interest, but then you never know. Intriguing camo scheme, though.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.
