Re: Canadian Military A/C

It would be really cool if Corgi produced this one.

The Canadian rescue version that is currently available, IMHO, is rather unsightly.

Have you seen it in the flesh, Admin? I find it hard to believe you would say that after saying you pre-ordered the post war PBY. I believe the RCAF Rescue Lanc is one of Corgi's greatest models ever. If I had to pick one to keep, this one would stand a good chance of being it.

Unfortunately, I don't believe we'll see anymore post war RCAF Lancs. The RAF one due out this year is probably as close as we'll get. That and the fact if it isn't a combat aircraft, sales usually tank.

Pics as always courtesy of Grand Master Tricatus.

Re: Canadian Military A/C

I certainly didn't mean to offend my Canadian brethren, but yea I have and I didn't care much for it. It may be that we have a greater tolerance for dayglow when it's represents the home team.

The US PBY represents something that I can identify with therefore I don't care as much about it's aesthetics.

Re: Canadian Military A/C

The other tip-off that the pic was taken in England is the position of the steering wheel in the vehicle in the foreground - right hand drive = UK. It is marked RAF on the left fender as well.

Blimey Canucklehead, your eyesight is way sharper than mine !!!!!

I was just going on the Lanc's colours, codes, turret & a sprinkling of intuition (plus the mud & water in the fore-ground !!!).

Glad you've spotted those points, & confirmed my suspicion.

What an Historic photo that one is - a real peach.

Re: Canadian Military A/C

Nice work gents, but now that you have me really studying this picture, who are the dignitaries in the foreground? Can't make out officer's ranks but the woman facing the photographer appears to be using binos and man on left looks surprisingly like Chamberlain! A woman's presence during this period would seem unusual wouldn't it?

Re: Canadian Military A/C

Great, great pics! I too love the maple leaf roundel.

Can someone tell me the difference between the Lincoln and the Lanc? Without going to the books, I mean off the top of your head. I know they were similar (the Linc and the Lanc, not the books and yer head).

Any DC-3's?

Re: Canadian Military A/C

Lincoln was somewhat larger and was fitted with 4 bladed props and much larger engines-RAAF used them quite extensively and so did the Argentines. It was just UGLY!

Predominantly larger airframe, noticeably larger wingspan, more powerful engines (with annular radiators), which were 'all the rage' on these & the Avro Tudor airliners, longer range, faster, higher altitude, I.I.R.C. .50 cal guns for defence (instead of puny .303's).

They were obsolete quickly & supplanted/replaced by Boeing B.29's (named 'Washingtons' in RAF service) until the Air Ministry decided to wake-up

.......& replace the 'museum relics' with a force of Canberra's/Valiant's/Vulcan's & Victor's - last of which served as Fuel-Tankers until 1993, at the same airfield (Marham/Norfolk) which had the most B.29 'Washingtons'.

I've just been "trawling the archive" (FOR AGES !) trying to find this FANTASTIC RCAF '419' Squadron shot orig' posted by "Mapleflag"

I doubt very much, that many of our newer members would have been fortunate to see these THREE beautiful shots, so, no-apologies made for re-surfacing this thread !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy those SUPERB pix

Also, makes me Lament the 1956 RAF Maritime-Patrol St.Mawgan Lancaster, that Corgi sadly cancelled.....(pix on post No.21)
