Re: For Mustang Fans

Cracking shot; absolutely beautiful - trust airliners.net to come up with such a wonderful image.

On one of my last visits there (a few years ago), a mate & I sat just to the right-hand side of this shot, behind the embankment (after walking over the M.11 bridge), & whilst sitting in a farmer's field (dead opposite). We watched no less than 7 x Mustangs following/chasing each other round, in aerobatic 'Lufberry's' & the like = superb, for me the highlight of the show, (as I prefer watching P.51's to Spitfires anyday !).

Re: For Mustang Fans

Great shot. I would love to make it to Duxford someday. What is the nearest large city to it?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: For Mustang Fans

Great shot. I would love to make it to Duxford someday. What is the nearest large city to it?

Hi, m.d. Nearest city is Cambridge, however.......

Nearest Airport is Stanstead, in Essex - (London & England's Third largest/busiest).

Stanstead originally, was built by an American Combat Engineer Battalion, for the benefit of the 8th AF - (BUT) - as the U.S.A.A.F became more structured/settled - Stanstead, became the home of the 344th B.G. & their beautiful B.26 Martin Marauders (White Triangle Tail markings, as depicted in the Revell 1/72nd scale plastic kit box art & 'Rosie O'Grady' as featured on the cover of Osprey's " B.26 Units Of The 8th & 9th"), so any a/c enthusiast visiting there, is on hallowed ground !!!!!!!!

The Airport, lays to the side of the M.11 Motorway, at Junction 8

Museum
I.W.M. Duxford, is 2 stops further on up the M.11, at Junction 10

Cambridge, the University city, is at Junction 12, 13 & 14, the last of

which merges into the A.14 - which crosses North of Cambridge (going East) towards the Famous current day USAF Air-Bases of Mildenhall (KC-135 Tankers & C.5 Galaxy's & neighbouring Lakenheath, home of the 48th F.W.'s = F.15 Eagles (492, 493 & 494th F.S.).

THE W.W.II AMERICAN CEMETARY at Madingley, lies 3 miles to the

West of Cambridge - 3,812 American Soldiers/Sailors & Aircrew are buried

here, many of them B.17 & B.24 crew, along with G.I's killed on D-Day.

A further 5,126 servicemen & women (KIA & MIA) are recorded on the Portland Stone wall.
It's open daily, 9-5 .

Allow yourself a whole day to get around Duxford (I.W.M), itself.

Best if you hire a car. H.C.H.
