B-17G Nine O Nine and B-24J Witchcraft photos

These two warbirds visited Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., this weekend, courtesy of the Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour 2007. Nice opportunity to get up close and personal to these bombers -- and even clamber aboard for the interior photos of the B-17. If I'd had a spare $400 on me, I could've taken a 30-minute flight, too. Sadly, that's too much to take out of petty cash for me.

Folgore, I am absolutely NOT a spendthrift (just ask my better half, who can be!), but when I had the chance I went ahead and did it around four years ago. I'm STILL grinning from the memory of it. If you have the chance again, and in any way can manage the $400, I'd encourage you to do so!

Edit: By the way, great pics, thanks for sharing!

I hope these bombers will make it to Mather Airfield in Sacramento. I am committed to get a ride on at least the Nine-O-Nine!

They look great. I worked on 909 when she looked like this.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Hey Fly -- they're scheduled to come up to McClellan and then Lincoln in late May.... Not Mather.

I usually go watch 'em take off and land all day and snap some pics. Come on up to mine and Black6's neighborhood -- we'll snap pics of your ride (and live vicariously through you)

Are these birds still in Burbank? I have no idea they had even come into town and would love to go see them.

Anything for a weird life.

Sorry, djjeffhall -- according to the Collings Foundation website, they were scheduled to depart today at 1200. The website's got the entire tour schedule. I only found out about the visit via an ad in the LA Times -- though my wife is convinced someone here told me!

Great pictures!

Been in there--done that $400 trip. A gift from my wife--a gift that keeps on giving, as Eddie says, memories. I was behind the pilots, on the floor, for takeoff.

It was a beautiful day in Florida, two years ago.
