Histoire & Collections

We do no have a section for books or literature as they do in the UK forum. But this section will work since it is about picture books (which, of course, contain photographs).

I learned about Histoire & Collections through the FOV thread about P-40s.

I purchased the book. Well, today I browsed through AbeBooks--and found a gazillion books (8,000?) on Mustangs. I ordered the P-51 Histoire (for $10)AND a picture book by Jeff Ethell. (I have his P40 book).

If you are a book lover, these are almost better than Osprey, as I said elsewhere.

Re: Histoire & Collections

I have a number of these books (the Planes and Pilots series) and agree these are terrific references, especially for the price.

I recently received one of the newest volumes in their hardback series which features incredible photography of vintage equipment/uniforms and period photos- it's about the 8th Air Force in WWII and is simply amazing. Below is an image of the 8th AF book and one of the soon-to-be released books in the Planes and Pilots series.

Re: Histoire & Collections

Thanks for the update. I will look for these. I know this Forum is a good networking source for materials. My wife doesn't like it, but she understands my need for graphics--and puts up with this part of my addiction. In fact, she thinks the "intellectual" part--looking at pictures rather than flying little planes around the room, making sounds--is better for my health.

Re: Histoire & Collections

I have the two Bf 109 books from Histoire & Collections and have the Fw one on order ( I don't believe it has been printed yet). I find them to be excellent sources for checking out the different liveries of the aircraft.

Re: Histoire & Collections

I'll just add my agreement here - for art this series is very well done.

Personally, I have both Me 109 volumes; P-40; Stuka; and P-51 volumes.
I highly recommend all of them.

Can't wait to see the Fw190 and Hurricane volumes - thanks for posting that info.

Also the large hardback "Corsair: 30 years of filibustering" by Bruno Patautigny (from the same publisher) is fantastic! - especially the color artwork/illustrations. List is pricey, but amazon's price is pretty good and there are used ones out there.

Re: Histoire & Collections

Does anyone remember the Aircam series of books? I think they were around in the 70s. Great for paint schemes. Are they still about I wonder?
