Martin Mars landed at Lake Shasta

The Martin Mars splashed down on Lake Shasta today.
The flying boat's support team is at Bridge Bay..Based out of Vancouver Island, Canada, the monstrous water bomber capable of dousing three to four acres with 7,200 gallons of water – has been set to join to fight against the north state's wildfires since Thursday, but has been delayed by mechanical problems.

That is one big water tanker....It's really smokey up here again today too.

Great news, TY JP! It seems that our smoked-filled state is pretty evident in that picture too!

JP - I saw this bad boy when it was stationed at Lake Oroville the last time we had such a bad fire season (was that 2001-2?). The plane is an absolute monster. Here's a couple of pics I took (behold the awesome quality of a 2 megapixel digital camera):

Re: Martin Mars landed at Lake Shasta

Wow....Great pictures Black6...She is a monster for sure..First time i have seen one too..
I wish this smoke hurry up and leave...It's very bad to breath ...I'm on the softball team and i
have a hard time breathing this dirty air too.The bad part is these tankers can't take off if they can't see their drop zone...
Some of these fires up here there just letting them burn i heard too...

Starman, do you live in or around Redding CA?

My father grew up there and we still have family in town.

I can still remember watching & listening to fully loaded B-17 Fire Bombers Flying Over head on their way to fight forest fires in the 80’s.

Re: Martin Mars landed at Lake Shasta

Wow. Now THAT is one heck of a firefightin' airplane. I can see why they named 'em "Mars".
