Re: Celtics polish off Lakers for 17th NBA crown

As a long time Lakers fan I must say that other than about 3 quarters the Celtics completely outplayed the Lakers in the series. They earned the victory with their hard work.

Though I'd like to have seen a Game 7 the Lakers exceeded expectations by winning the west and getting to the finals. Hopefully with Andrew Bynum coming back we can get back to the finals next year and give the Celtics more of a challenge. These two teams could be big rivals again just like back in the 80s. Though Mr. James might have something to say and you can't count out Phoenix, San Antonio, and Utah out west.

I agree they outplayed the Lakers...I was the only one at my office who wanted to see them win too...
Maybe next year it will be better for the Lakers....But they need to do some soul searching or something because
i have seen them play better then that...Even Magic Johnson make a remark about the Lakers the other day too.
But the Boston Celtics are the better team and they earned it well..

Re: Celtics polish off Lakers for 17th NBA crown

The only Lakers that seem to have a competitive fire in them were Kobe and Fisher, the two guys who had been there before. The other guys have never been at this level (Luke Walton excepted) and it showed. I expect that Odom and Gasol in particular will be very unhappy with the way they played and will look to elevate their games for next year. And the team had better figure out how to play better defense.

Most of the time you have to pay your dues to get to the championship and this Laker team really had things too easy. Now perhaps they will have more of the attitude the Celtics demonstrated. Having the loss sit in their guts all summer tends to do that!

Re: Celtics polish off Lakers for 17th NBA crown

That was awesome... as an East Coast native let's just say I don't have much "love" for the hollywood dribblers... but I must say I was very suprised at how they laid down last night and got steamrolled. 17 baby!

The Lakers may have more talent... may... but the Celts were clearly the superior team that wanted it more. You can see it in the little things -- all the hustle plays pretty much went boston's way, which is not "luck", and when a laker hit the floor (on those rare occassions) none of his teammates helped him up! When Jordan Farmer (sic) face planted going to the basket all the lakers turned and looked the other way.... don't think there's a lot of good friends on that team, but I might be wrong.

All of which raises the fundamental question: Is Kobe really a greater player than Michael? I don't think so.

I don't even think it's close, really -- No. He may be more arrogant though.

He's a fantastic player, up in the Top 10 of all time I think... I say think, because his inability to get to the basket in this series really suprised me, particularly last night. It was like all the Lakers -- Kobe in particular -- stood around and took jumpshots. Brick, after brick, after brick -- sorry, as you can tell I'm not the biggest Kobe or Phil fan and the manner of this particular beatdown was a bit satisfying. No offense intended to Laker fans.

And the best thing about it- a new England area team wins the championship, and there are no accusations of cheating or spying or anything like that. Well done Celtics!
