An example of how little the copy writers at CNN know about history. HMAS Sydney was not a battlecruiser. She was a light cruiser. There was an Australian battlecruiser, HMAS Australia, but she was sunk 1924 to comply with the Washington Naval Treaty. And this is not just CNN adding battle to cruiser because they get it right later on in the story when refering to HMS Hood.

My local newspaper story has Sydney weighing 67,300 tons. Guess that puts an end to the Musahi/Yamoto tonnage record for WWII.

How do these "Journalists" actually get away with it & keep their jobs

Some of 'ours' over here are downright embarassing when it comes to reporting military-stuff

One of the Cheif-editors of a top English newspaper lost his job over (his) Ill-informed reporters, who couldn't tell a 'parade-ground' weapon (SA.80) from an active-service assualt-rifle !!!!!!!!!!

Most recent fiasco was over the reporting of the return of Avro Vulcan XH.558 (they couldn't even get the a/c number right & also actually said the a/c was STILL owned by the RAF !!!!!!!!!!!!

The (pathetic) reporter SHOULD have been sacked - (an elevator attendant wouldn't have done a worse job)

That is still the big mystery of the Sydney. She got in too close but no one is sure why she sank. There is some hope that a study of the wreck will make that clear.

The Sydney closed trying to ID the Kormorant which did a very good job of playing an innocent merchantman. Sydney got within a mile and then the Germans opened fire. The first salvo took out the bridge of the Sydney. The ships then exchanged fire but a good portion of the Sydney's armament was out of action.

The last time the survivors of Kormorant saw her she was on fire. But if the wreck is in one piece then we know she did not suffer a magazine explosion. She was hit by torpedos so perhaps she took on enough water to flounder. If she capsized suddenly it could explain why no one survived her sinking.
