Flaw may permanently ground 160 jets

A manufacturing defect blamed for the mid-air breakup of an F-15 Eagle fighter may cause the Air Force to ground a quarter of its fleet of those warplanes permanently, a top general said Thursday.

Re: Flaw may permanently ground 160 jets

Maybe I can pick one up cheap for a lawn ornament! I've always wanted my own F-15 - to heck with my neighbors!

I say Defense Industrial Complex Conspiracy - how better else to ensure future business and rip off the US taxpayer than building hidden flaws in your planes that turn up 25 years later.

Seriously - how long are these things really supposed to last given the amount of abuse they take?

I say send one of those F-15s my way ---- I've always wanted a perfectly flawless diecast metal in my collection anyway!

Well let's see the U.S. is in need of a twin engined jet that can carry some bombs. I wonder what we can use, that we have plenty of????????

I agree with that...Tomcat to the rescue...
I agree, i think it's a ploy to get more F-22's in the fleet..

The USAF is just looking for a reason to buy more F-22's.

Re: Flaw may permanently ground 160 jets

I think this says it all, what better way to get what you want if what you have is defective??

The defect was discovered as the Air Force continues to fight for more advanced F-22 Raptors, seen as the future of the service's fighter fleet. Congress allowed the purchase of only 183 of the almost 400 the Air Force wanted, but the service continues to ask for another 200.

Re: Flaw may permanently ground 160 jets

Since it was a manufacturing defect, is Boeing going to be held accountable for fixing it?

... although, I'm not sure the pilot who was at the controls when his aircraft broke up around him would feel the same way. Or was he in on the conspiracy as well?

Anyway, hello, PhantomPhan1200 and happy new year!
