| Otis F-15 to be Static Display Looks like there are efforts to preserve the two F-15s that were the first to respond to the 9/11 attacks. From the Cape Cod Times newspaper: One F-15 may stay behind when others go July 11, 2007 OTIS AIR BASE Even after the last F-15s fly off from Otis Air National Guard Base, one jet is likely to stay behind for posterity. Guard officials will petition to keep the squadron leader's jet on display at the base after the jets are moved to other bases. This F-15 was one of two planes to first respond to New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. "We're researching what we need to do to save it," said Otis spokesman Cliff McDonald. The New England Air Museum is currently in negotiations to bring the second jet from a storage facility in Arizona to Connecticut to join its collection, according to a Museum of the Air Force spokesman. — AMANDA LEHMERT Note: The Otis F-15s are being relocated to Barnes ANGB. The Barnes A-10s are being sent to other units. Mike | |||||||||||||
