Sorry MoMo, I disagree. Punishment should be swift and harsh, very harsh!! Noone will respect anything else. When these idiots know they wont be held to account, whats to fear? How about bring back the ole Chain Gangs for idiots like these???? But the lawyers, ACLU, etc said it was "inhuman treatment" due to the heat, etc. Awwwwwww poor babies. Now, as I recall, Ol' Cool Hand Luke got thrown in the pokey for sawing the heads off parking meters ( also a gross and mindless act of vandalism against the authorities ) He also got killed shortly after being half-beaten to death because of " a failure to communicate "!

It's true, he could eat a lot of eggs, and won the egg-eating contest. However, that all made for an excellent movie. Advocating the revival of such harsh treatment surely goes against the grain and sentiment of anyone who has seen this film.

I ask you, who were your sympathies with at the end of the movie? Was it with Cool Hand ( Paul Newman ) or was it with The Authorities?

Hey there.

Thanks for taking the time to make some excellent and eloquent points. While I think its true that the people who did this are being blithering idiots and deserve an approprite punishment, making that punishment permanent and violent (i.e. shooting them.) only plays into their hands.

Sometimes it sucks taking the higher ground, and the idea of putting these people up against the wall sounds like a great idea. However, if you never step up and take the position that these are guys are dolts and should be pitied for being such short sighted fools, how are we any better than them?
