Re: CIA bird back home

The A-12 is a single seat aircraft and the pre-cursor to the SR-71. We have three on display here in the good ole heart of Dixie.

Re: CIA bird back home

Gorgeous bird! I would like to see an A-12 variant in diecast next to an SR-71 Black Bird for sure.

Re: CIA bird back home

Didn't the A-12 have a weapons bay?

I'm certain that I used to have pictures of ground crew loading missiles into it .

Re: CIA bird back home

If I recall correctly, the YF-12A is the interceptor version of the A-12. They built 3 of them I think?

The YF-12 was a prototype interceptor aircraft that the USAF evaluated as a development of the CIA's highly-secret A-12 Oxcart. Only 3 were ever built.
It had a armament of 3 x Hughes Aim-47A air to air missles located internally in the fuselage bay.

P.S. There is only one left in the world today she can be seen at the National Museum of the USAF at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton,Ohio.
Also if you want to see the A-12 two seat trainer ever built it's on display at Cailfornia Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles,Calif.
