Re: amazing pictures on this site

That is the Sally B. Yes, it has the Belle noseart on the one side, and her real nose art on the other. The checkered cowling is in honor of the guy that bought her. He died in a T-6 crash. His T-6 had that same checkered cowling on it. The chin turret was removed for filming in the movie, but has since been reinstalled as you can see in the pic.

Knowledgable man mustangdriver ! you're dead right.

Off the top of my head (memory) the original owner was Ted White, (the T.6 guy the yellow/black checkered cowl commemorates).

Elly Sallingboe has been the owner since (both during the movie & currently)

I believe I'm right in saying that 'Sally B' (the fictitious nose artwork, by which she has always been known), is a play on words/re-arrangement of Elly Sallingboe's surname.

This aircraft lives at Duxford airfield, by the M.11 motorway, in Cambridgeshire.

Re: amazing pictures on this site

Thanks budd. The B-17 is my favorite airplane, so I have read up on them since I was about 14.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
