Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

I have been a member of the Evergreen A&S Museum long before they got the Spruce Goose however I have never posted many pics. I have always intended to create a site were I can show the growth of the museum over the years since the museum has never done a good job of presenting their collection on-line.

As part of the fathers day weekend my father & I stopped by the museum to see the new space museum. I took a couple pics with his point in shoot to get an idea of what its like. I can’t wait till I can go back with my Canon D30.

Re: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

Aviation & Space Museum started out in an in humble hangar attached to the corporate head quarters of Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville, Oregon

In the late 90’s they built a HUGE building to house the Spruce Goose, then they built an IMAX theater, and just recently completed a Space Museum which they is housed in a building which is a mirror image of the Spruce Goose facility.

Re: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum has an amazing record for acquiring artifacts. Every couple months they seem to have added another plane, helicopter, or space craft. The museums newest plane is a pristine F-105G Thundercheif it joins an equally clean F-100F & another camo bird in the form of an A-7D.

Re: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is just one part of the Captain Michael King Smith Educational Institute and the space portion of the Museumlace is the newest component. The space museum has some amazing artifacts but the room for growth and the industry & governmental connections to obtain new including museum pieces is perhaps its most valuable asset.

V-1
V-2
Titan II
lunar lander (Mock-up)
lunar rover (Mock-up)
X-15
SR-71
D-21 Drone
T-38
SH-3 Sea King
numerous capsules and other artifacts

In addition to the items list above they have secured a Titan IV and are in the running for a Space shuttle once they retire in 2010.

The museums SH-3 is a must see for anyone who is a fan of Corgi’s AA33402 Sikorsky SH-3D Sea King HS-4 Sqn, the display allows you to stand directly under the capsule or along side of the helicopter from one the of several elevated walk ways.

Re: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The Titan II is displayed in a launch configuration along with a launch control room display using actual consoles from Vandenberg AFB so authentic they even use the actual floor tiles.

Re: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The museum T-38’s was originally painted in the classic all white USAF training scheme, it now wears the colors of a NASA talon.

T-38’s have been used by NASA for pilot proficiency, training astronauts, space shuttle chase planes & photographic & video platform for the Shuttle program.

Take a close look at the second from last pic, I love the way the vertical tail seems to disappear due to the reflection off the gloss paint of the Talons tail.
