Historic Aviation Memorial Museum in Texas

The Historic Aviation Memorial Museum (HAMM) is located at Pounds Field in Tyler, Texas. They are a small nonprofit museum and up until last year worked out of a hangar on the back side of the airfield. Currently they are now in former airline terminal with all sorts of room now. They have multimedia theatre for presentations, library and an expanded gift shop (And what a day I had there!). There old hangar is now purely for restoration work. The museums list of aircraft include a F-104A, F-105D, F-111, F4D, FJ-4 Fury, L29, Mig 17F, PBY-5A (Still in restoration), T-2C, T-33, T-37 and a TA-4J Skyhawk (That restoration was just completed on). The interior of the musuem has rooms full of display cabinets and planes hanging from the ceiling throughout (Quite a bit of diecast on display too). The folks that run the place are real friendly and even let my son and I tour the museum last year prior to its initial opening. Try to get some decent interior shot next time we go over (After the gift shop experience, kind of forgot to snap more inside photos.).

Looks like a great little museum CC.

There used to be one more small museum just on the east side of Dallas called the Silent Wings Museum. It had some great displays including a fully restored Waco CG-4A, but they moved to Lubbock, Texas a few years back. I really like going to some of these smaller museums, because every now and then they have some pretty interesting displays.

AND some great deals.

It all started out as just an inocent trip to the museum for some quality time with my son. What Corgi diecast models on the shelf,,,, you say there is more itn the store room,,,,, and that is about all that it took. Son and I did have a good time looking at the displays and checking out the planes, but I am glad of one thing though. They have a B-17, B-24 and a P-51 coming in on Monday to take folks up for rides. If they had been there today I would have been shelling out more for my son and I to go up for a ride. Doged that bullet though, son has to be back to school on Monday. Maybe next year, but still got a bunch of cool planes.

If I were you Cruv' I'd take up on EVERY opportunity to go up in an old-Historic plane.

Over here, in England, & now as a 'part' of Europe, we are under European laws & legislation.

There was a directive floating around on one of the U.K's aviation sites, explaining why the U.K's main operator is now giving it's last 'Passenger' D.C.3/C.47 ride.

With Laws & Regulations becoming ever more stringent, I certainly would NOT by-pass ANY chance to go up in an old Warbird.

Take the chance whilst it's there, guy !!!!!!!!!

Re: Historic Aviation Memorial Museum in Texas

My son and I do volunteer work at this museum and yesterday was a fun day to be there. There were quite a few neat aircraft staging out of there for a local airshow. We had a fun time looking upclose at some of these neat aircraft.

Thinking about putting some exhaust stains on my HM Airacorbra. Neat how exhaust stains conform to the trailing edge of the wing.
