Re: New England Air Musuem

Hey Tank Nut,

Is this the one in Windsor Locks? If it is I've been there a few times and agree, it's a great place. In the warm months they have "open-cockpit" weekends where you can climb into the planes' cockpits. That's pretty cool. The A-10s are from the CT National Guard unit. We'll be losing those soon and will be getting some new cargo/light transport planes. Really s_ _ ks, but that's the way it goes. Hard to believe this museum was almost destroyed in the October 3rd, 1979 tornado.

Yes that is Windsor locks and the A 10's lined up was real cool!! To bad your losing them, I would love to be there when they are taking off and flying around!!! Here is another pic for ya rush!

Re: New England Air Musuem

Anytime!! I just wished they had not packed the planes in so close as it made it hard to get good pics. The Thunder chief was a real hard one as they A 4 and other planes were right up next to it. They have a pic of an F 4 on there site but it was not there and that made me as I have seen german one's but never a US one yet. They have aircraft outside as well but as it was getting dark when I got done inside. I did not take any pics and I tried to take a pic of the A 10 gate gard inside the fence of the base on my way out and the gard there came out and told me NO !!! I guess he thought I might be trying to take pics of the base and did not like that.

Re: New England Air Musuem

Looks like they have added a lot of stuff since the last time I visited there. The B-29 was stored outside at that point and didn't look anywhere near as good. Nice to see them improving things, adding to the collection.

I know what you mean! The Hill AFB Museum keeps making acquisitions, when what they really need is another building. Thanks for the pics!

Same with the experimental hangar at the NMUSAF (as of December 2005). It was darn near impossible trying to get a decent shot of the XB-70 and some others all jammed into one hangar.

Ahhhhh I love that B-29.

I agree with M.D. - that B.29's makin' me 'dribble' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tank Nut; re your quote on the F.4 = you gotta be 'jesting', right ??????????

On your side of the (Atlantic)-Ocean & YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A U.S. F.4 Phantom ??????????????
You gotta be S****in' me ?????
Like, how old are you man ? = 12 ???????? (judging by the way you spell 'Gard', maybe !)

Tell Suz' to give you a 'slap' from me !!!!!!!! LOL !

Regarding your last quote about the 'Gard' (Guards) & photography - I know where you're comin' from.....

I've had that happen numerous times = worst one, was when I was on my old Suzuki with my mate Matt on the back.....

We were driving past an Army-Barracks in Bedfordshire when we spotted an (over-here) 'ultra-rare' Lee/Grant Tank as a gate-guardian

I parked-up quick on the other side of the Public-Highway & two armed soldiers came RUNNING over (Yikes, this was 1981 !!!!!!! = WELL before the 9/11 paranoia !!!!!!!!) as I lined up my 35mm SLR !
Both had a go at us & said "you can't photo' the WW.II Tank without the commanding officers permission !!!!!
......"ok then, (says I) phone him up & ask....." (greeted by a blank-stare from both) so I shouted "F*** you & your stupid toy-tank" & left, without any pix of that comparitevly rare beast, with my mate Matt 'p***ing himself laughing !!!!!!!!

I'd imagine that the response you've got (re; taking pix at the perimeter) will be commonplace with terrorism ruining things for us genuine enthuiasts - Gawd knows they've even cancelled all the wonderful USAF airshows over here that used to be so commonplace (with Camo'd F.4's in abundance at one time !).

BTW, Tank Nut - I LOVE your CF.101 avatar....... way cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

& the pix that started this thread....... ALSO = LOVE the F.105-D = Luscious !!!!!!!!!! LOL

Over here, I guess it depends on the base you go to. For instance, Shaw has a few gate guards outside the base perimeter, close to the entry post. I pulled into the visitor parking lot, walked over to the guard shack and asked if it would be cool for me to take a few pics. Their response was "Yes go ahead, but don't touch the airplanes, and don't point the camera towards the base itself." That was reasonable.
But, if you pass by a base where you can see the flightline from the highway, do not stop to take pics. The control tower will usually call the local (or state) police to come check you out.
