| Overloon war museum, Holland While visiting Holland with my family last year, my father-in-law took me out to this museum, near the German border. For anyone who's interested in WW2 - and post-war - armour and vehicles, this is the place. Built on the actual site of a major (though not well-known) tank battle, this incredible museum has several exhibits of the vehicles destroyed in it - including a largely restored Panther G. Once you actually see the size of this awesome machine, compared to the Sherman and Cromwell next to it, you almost wonder how the nazzi's lost the war As well, the museum has a massive 'George C Marshall' collection of over 300 military vehicles, against a background of various historical scenes from World War II. The Marshall Museum is housed in four industrial halls, covering a total of 44,000 square feet. Website is www.oorlogsmuseum-overloon.nl I'd rate the Overloon museum right up there with the Imperial War Museum in London - actually more so, because the Dutch museum goes more into the horrors the Dutch faced during the invasion/occupation (and subsequent resistance), and details of the battlefield on it stands (several trenches and bunkers are maintained on the forested site) | |||||||||||||

| Re: Overloon war museum, Holland Thanks for the info. Freefall! I'm actually going to Amsterdam this coming Saturday (the 20th) and was wondering where to go (besides the Van Gogh, Redlight District, Frank House & Rembrandt Museums). I also found 2 stores that carry diecast in Amsterdam, so I'll be visiting them too! | |||||||||||||

Also - for us collectors - there is a small but excellent model shop just across from the main entrance, with an astonishing range of completed models from a range of manufacturers. I happily spent nearly an hour there just browsing, before forking out the euro's. Very broad selection of WW2 reference and historical books, too. I imagine the proprietor cashes in from the regular class excursions of Dutch school-boys... | ||||||||||||||
