LzyBns, thanks for sharing these pictures. Looks like a great place to be sidetrack when visiting San Diego. I plan to visit the USS Midway when I send off my daughter to college at San Diego State this September.

Re: CV-41 Midway Museum

We've got a trip planned for end of July. This is definitely on my list.

Can you get into the machinery spaces and other working areas?

Ooops!

Re: CV-41 Midway Museum

Yes timbo, bring some good walking shoes alot of walking and climbing and ducking the ceilings are really low in there, I thought a submarine was cramp. It's a great tour they also give you mp3 like player with head phones that describes where your at on the ship and personal inserts from crew members about the area. Bring some extra cash the flight simulators are a blast. And if you have time drive up to U.S.M.C.A.S Mira Mar they also have a great plane exhibit it's open to the public and it's free! They just finished an Avenger and should have a Corsair in night fighter camouflage soon, I'll be going back there soon to get some pictures..

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: CV-41 Midway Museum

Terrific pictures.

A companion floating museum in Northern California is the USS Hornet in Alameda. Here is a link to its website: http://www.uss-hornet.org/index.html

Lots of history with the Hornet, including the recovery of the first men on the moon, Apollo 11 and Apollo 12. Plus there is a Tomcat from VF-41 on the hangar deck.

I spent a night on the Hornet last year with my Boy Scouts in the Hornet's Live Aboard program and it was quite an experience for the boys, especially spending time on the flight deck at night under the stars and telling ghost stories in the fo'c'sle. Highly recommended.
